Someone recently shared how they've been learning a language for a few years, can have decent conversations, but they hesitate to consider themselves "fluent".

And they wondered when the transition from "I'm learning" to "I'm fluent" happens.

This is what I told them:

Have I made an annoying post yet today? Yes? Well, here's another one. You should totally back TheLuckyMachine.com It's a novella I wrote. It's about a robot who befriends a cyborg down in a multi-leveled dystopian city & helps him out bc she feels nice doing it. :)

I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

This is a good time to remember, there would be more local options but Starbucks ran them out. Let's do the reverse. Support local, & put Starbucks out of business. Fuck Starbucks.

Local shops also support the community. Like selling local artists' work, food drives, etc. Starbucks would never.
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

The frustrating thing is that the 40$ hoodies are obviously fast fashion. Made in abusive settings and meant to fall apart.

We're so brainwashed into thinking we need new clothes every season, every month, every week, we can't fathom spending $$ on quality things meant to last decades or more.
Let me show you the difference between a $40 hoodie and a ~$100 hoodie. 🧵

I was feeling so motivated this morning, and now I'm burnt out. It's hard not to feel inadequate with my language journey. I keep feeling just short of my goals. And those goals haven't moved, but it seems like I haven't either. :/ Just frustrating monolingual moment. :( #langsky

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

People really need to stop framing it is a question of getting more evidence. I mean, sure, that too. But we know. We all know. The president of the United States raped children. Say that. When they get mad at you for saying it, say it again and treat them like an idiot for pretending they doubt it.

People wanted electricity, computers, the internet, web browsing, email, smart phones, stuff like that long before it became mandatory or expected. AI has flipped that process: its elites who are forcing it on everyone else, who dislike and resist it wherever they can. It’s head spinning.
I cannot remember any other technology being so beloved and imposed in a society that vocally and viscerally does not want it.

Like… ARE there historical examples from the last century?
Microsoft has been talking about Windows becoming an “agentic OS” and online feedback seems have been universally negative.

I’m personally skeptical that an AI infused Windows desktop does anything that having ChatGPT on my phone and Gemini in my browser doesn’t already do better.

Honestly a must-read for everyone, regardless if you have children in your life or not. But also would be interesting for #langsky folks.
Someone posted about this (& ofc it's lost to my feed) but this makes sense why so many adults I know struggle to read text books, why many people jump to visuals to understand things (articles especially), & how some mass media distorts people's understanding via disingenuous imagery
How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...
