This is not being discussed by anyone, except like two dozen guys in the UK MoD who have a colonial mindset about the whole thing, and maybe twice that number in Dublin - most Fine Gael-adjacent desperate for the big boy countries to like Ireland and/or them personally

Would they marginally prefer Ireland were not neutral? I don't doubt it at all. But if this is some massive strategic vulnerability, it's super weird that it's never discussed as such by the people in charge of worrying about massive strategic vulnerabilities

I've said this before and I'll say it again: almost all of the arguments deployed in favour of Ireland joining European military structures are based on obfuscation, made-up threats, and scaremongering

This is particularly stupid given *there are good arguments in favour of it*. They're never used

This is outrageously propagandistic
When it comes to modern war, Ireland is a high-value target: its waters on the western fringe of Europe contain three-quarters of all undersea cables in the northern hemisphere. Despite this, is unprotected and unprepared.

An #FTEdit 🧵 on why this determinedly neutral nation is Europe's weak link 👇

I'll be appearing in front of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration later today to discuss Irish transposition of the NIS2 Directive; @ciananbrennan.bsky.social has a preview of the issues in the @irishexaminer.bsky.social.
'No justification' for State data-collection powers in proposed bill, say experts
The National Cyber Security Bill will also give “extremely wide” internet-blocking powers to the State's cyber security unit if passed, the director of Digital Rights Ireland has warned.

Why don’t people fret about Swiss independence like they do Ireland?

“Rather than address the real root causes of political dissatisfaction in Ireland, it suits the Government to point to asylum seekers as the problem – something the far right is happy to capitalise on.”

We’re watching a shift where AI simulates the cohesion and reinforcement that used to require an entire online community. A single person can now build a complete parallel reality with nothing more than a prompt window. Which seems bad.

LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language.
It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.

BASH: We have seen these attacks from the president at other people. It's not new. And I haven't heard you speak out about it until it was directed at you.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: I think that's fair criticism. And I would like to say, humbly, I'm sorry for taking part in the toxic politics.

It would be one thing having a "debate" on immigration if people meant they wanted a "debate" based on facts. But what most people seem to mean when they say they want a debate is that is they want us to pretend a bunch of entirely made up bullshit is true.
