"They sold out once. They'll do it again."

Start of a Black Friday sales ad I saw that could have just as easily been talking about Congress.

I'm not saying we have a problem, but I just had to suggest to @starfishknits.bsky.social that we put up a sign in our kitchen that says "Thank you for not buying mugs".

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wrote about the idea of having enough:

More than enough
I love this time of year because the holidays encompass the two messages we constantly hear in this country: "You need more" and "you have enough."

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Fine distinctions seem obvious to genre fans, who can easily distinguish between 7 kinds of sub-sub-genre and explain the differences.

To haters it all looks the same: "Oh, more of this stuff I hate".

Sorta feeling this today with the very granular child-rape distinctions making the rounds.

"It must be a great shock for you to be here in what is, for you, 100 years in the future."

"No, it's pretty much the same."

"Pretty much the same? The world has changed drastically!"

"You've still got people, and they're still a pain in the butt."

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Find the error in the sentence: "We should have shrimp scampi or pizza for dinner."

Answer: the word "or" is incorrect, and should be replaced with "on".

@starfishknits.bsky.social makes a damn fine shrimp scampi pizza.

Oh, Ozymandias, you're the one
Even though your reign's now done
Ozymandias, I'm awfully fond of you
(Bo bo bo de oh)
Ozymandias, King of Kings
Passions stamped on lifeless things
Ozymandias, your feet at least made it through
I heard there was a statue tall
That sneered at folk and commanded all
But you don't really care for symbols do ya
It goes like this the feet the fist
The head that fell the aim that missed
The long lost king whose name was Ozymandias
Ozymandias
Ozymandias
Ozymandias
Ozymaaaaandias
Once upon a desert sandy
As through winds the trav'ling man he
Spied the face of Ozymandy
Lying, simply lying there
Suddenly there was some writing
Pon the plinth that he was sighting
That the sand and time were blighting
Quoth the statue, "Now despair"

A right-wing content mill is about to take its place.

Paramount deserves to hemorrhage money over this. Cancel Paramount+. Boycott their movies in theaters.
