one more: i think people should be able to navigate a website like ao3 instead of demanding an app. it's digital literacy. it's important. it's a learnable skill.

and perhaps most glaringly, it's divorced from the algorithm. that's important, too.

it is sort of crazy-making, having grown up with "never disclose your name, age, location, likeness, or any potentially identifying details online" as the golden standard of online safety taught to me as a kid, to hear people be like "yeah upload your whole ass government ID to a poorly secured app"
