#ArtAdventCalendar Day 6: Flight of the Hummingbirds

This was inspired by watching hummingbirds at dawn during fall migration. Pale lilac sky + the colors of the birds. It’s like a flight tracker of the paths from trees to feeder & all over the neighborhood. Magnificent.

Day 6
Fused glass pendant
#fusedglass #glassart
Round fused glass pendant with silver plated bail and orange cord, about 4.1cm or 1 5/8"in diameter, nestled among green leaves of a plant. Base of the pendant is a round piece of white opalescent (non-transparent) glass. the base is covered by small glass spheres of various sizes (up to 1/4") which have been partially fused to the base (and should remind you of raindrops on leaves and flowers after the rain). Spheres in the center are clear, but there are transparent yellow spheres close to the bail, opalescent sunflower yellow ones along bottom left edge, and transparent pink along bottom right edge of the pendant. Border between colorful and clear spheres is made of spheres which have one half clear and the other is in yellow or pink. These spheres are arranged so that there is a clear demarcation line between area in color and area in clear glass so that areas in color have a shape of petals. I am sorry that this is such a clunky explanation.

The left hand one is in mid takeoff wings raised one foot in the air off its perch looking intently straight ahead. The swallows are nearly adult but have a less bright red face and bib and less dark head and neck collar than a full adult plumage. They were part of a family of 5 juveniles sitting on the bramble bush in the sunshine flying from branch to branch and gaping noisily every time an adult flew in to feed them.

My 11” x 14” linocut portrait of Sophie Brahe, a Renaissance aristocrat in headgear, ruff, dark clothing with medallion on a wide band and a long scarf or other thin fabric draped over her shoulders with her hands folded in front of her and alchemical vessels, printed in dark bronze ink, on a bronze background. Today it's HLA-A2, which is critical for the immune system. They present fragments of intra-cellular proteins to CD8+ T cells, which can initiate a targeted immune response.

For #ArtAdventCalendar Day 5, a friendly but very shy bog dweller.

Finished today and made from paper mache, wood, dyed hemp fibre and mulberry bark. 🐌
A gremlin or goblin figure with huge ears and a curious expression. He is draped in a cloak made from coarse mulberry bark, and bits of muted green hemp fibre that resemble seaweed functioning as a scarf. He has duck-like orange webbed feet, and carries a bucket in one hand and a fishing rod in the other. He is standing against a soft white background decorated with pieces of driftwood and some dried grass.
