Universities are in the process of making themselves stupider, which is going to make all of us stupider. If you work for one, and you keep your job, you should resolutely ignore this move, the ethical scolds who will push for it, and the business assholes who enforce it….

to keep functioning society must discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities
I wrote about a novel approach to tackling misinformation currently being discussed in Wales--and which some say Canada should try, too. What if we made a rule so politicians couldn't lie? www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
Is it time to make it illegal for politicians to lie to us?
That’s the question currently on the table in Wales, which has just released a draft of the “globally pioneering” sanctions for politicians.

My position is that, given that antisemitism exists, protests against synagogues would always backfire, regardless of the legitimacy of the grievance. I'm not interested in the ethical debate. It's remarkably counter productive, and it's disappointing people can't see this

It's odd that, for a group who invented original sin, a lot of christian theorists seem to prefer Foucault over Freud, because Foucault gets rid of the drives: a world not driven by conflict, a soul unburdened by the carnal.

Some days I wake up and think "my god Jello Biafra was right about everything, eh?"
Some days, it's WIlliam Burroughs
Some days, it's Arendt.
None of them are great.

Reader: they do not.
My reading, I believe most reading inevitably, will shift to audiobooks. I highly recommend it vs eye strain, the health effects of hours of sitting, & the twofer of enriching my life with a good book a week doing mindless chores.

Bookstores need to work audio downloads into their offerings.
