Tereza shares how switching to HexAuFoil grids gave her a 1Å resolution boost on a sub-100kDa membrane protein - while collecting less data and using fewer particles.

Learn how these grids simplify prep, improve reproducibility, and optimize Titan Krios setups.

and the Core Facility for Integrated Microscopy – CFIM – funded by @novo-nordisk.bsky.social where we collected our cryo-EM data on the first batch of newly developed HexAuFoil grids from @quantifoil.bsky.social
We spoke with Rectify about the first commercial use of HexAuFoil®, to gain new insights into the bile regulator BSEP.

Our grids improved resolution by almost 0.5 Å, helping eliminate toxic therapeutic candidates.

6) We were able to achieve these structures using our newly developed (an)aerobic freezing protocol using the SPT chameleon. This allowed us to generate high quality girds with thin ice without having to be in an anaerobic chamber!

Final conference of the year and what a pleasure to spend it MRC LMB with BCA BSG Winter Meeting. Lovely day discussing #cryoem and #crystallography, and congratulations to Peter Harrison from eBIC for taking away the final grid race prize, with a fab 16 sec time!

Hello, Bluesky!
To kick things off here, we’re excited to share: The SLFN11 story continues! We combined cryo-EM and biochemical assays to explain how phosphorylation regulates SLFN11´s tRNA cleavage and ssDNA binding activities.

Oh my. This is just gorgeous from Misha Kudryashev's lab (I don't think he's here yet?). Love to see it. V ATPase resolved directly in synaptic vesicles 🤤 Lots of other neat observations in there also. Congrats to all involved! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

I’m guessing there has been a big influx of synchrotron and cryoem embedded synch people - shout out if you want to be added to this starter pack!
ok to all synchrotron and cryoEM people out there ...a hastily put together starter pack! go.bsky.app/UThze5z
Because after the close of the competition, along came Christelle AlJamous from the IGF in Montpellier
with a stunning 15 sec entry, missing the prize but gaining the bragging rights! Incredible #cryoEM
tweezer skills all round! (and one last pic of the beauty of Carry-le-Rouet).
We had a run off competition - from which Nejma Rabhi of the IECB in Bordeaux emerged triumphant, beating her own time with an amazing 18 sec run, and taking away the prize. But wait for the twist...
And as the sun set on the final day we had FOUR possible winners tied on 19 secs each: Guillaume Bossan from IBPC, Julie Couston from IRIM in Montpelier, and Pierre Maisonneuve and Nejma Rabhi, both from IECB in Bordeaux! Astonishing scenes - less than 0.5 secs between them and so...
The grid-racing at
GDR_Appicom 5th Plenary meeting was epic! In this beautiful location, we had a lot of very talented and very competitive #cryoem scientists competing for the prize. Including Irene Dossou of I2BCParisSaclay pictured here!
A peaceful sunset at Carry-le-Rouet on the last night of the wonderful 5th APPICOM plenary meeting, but keep your 👀 peeled tomorrow for a thread because the peace is hiding absolute scenes at the #cryoem grid racing!

👇 Did you know one can use pulsed lasers not only to increase contrast in #cryoEM images, but also to reduce preferred particle orientation, by melting & re-vitrifying samples in a controlled way? ❄️🔬
