Glad to share my review essay “Changing China in Sociological Eyes” (AJS, July 2025). It reviews three recent books, while urging historicizing China’s reform and discussing the relationship between area studies and sociology. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I'm deeply honored to have received the Founder's Prize for the best article of the year in Social Science History. It's especially meaningful because SSHA has been such a generative and welcoming community for me as the co-chair of the Historical Geography and HGIS network.
Carolyn Swope received the Founder's Prize for her article “The Spatial Configuration of Segregation, Elite Fears of Disease, and Housing Reform in Washington, D.C.’s Inhabited Alleys” published in SSH 48(2). shorturl.at/eVz4A Congratulations! #sociology #history #segregation #housing #epidemiology

With Ho-fung Hung and @profyangzhang.bsky.social, I had the pleasure of discussing David McCourt's latest book at the @socscihistory.bsky.social conference at the #PalmerHouse (flashback to @mpsa.bsky.social times) in #Chicago. Highly recommended for anyone interested in #Russia or #China experts!

I created a starter pack for sociologists studying China: go.bsky.app/NetJdDm. We study China’s labor, gender, family, inequality, organizations, education, professions, media, civil society, protests, immigration, as well as politics and history.
Let me know if you want to be added (or removed).
