Dunno why I bother w/description. Am someone who takes pictures a lot, often focusing on architecture, old signs and old ads, Americana artifacts, and retail related things. And I love old video games. he/him

I AM SO EXCITED to report the sign was fixed, and as of tonight(5/13/25), this Walgreens sign is fully working again.

I'm pretty sure South Side Soda Shop was once on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives many years ago. Thanks for all your Goshen suggestions. Btw when I was briefly in Mishawaka, I liked going to Dari Fair. More soft serve ice cream flavors, than what you'll find at most ice cream stands in the Chicago area
I still can't believe Val Kilmer passed away. Since I really enjoyed the movies he acted in....
Do you have any idea if this sculpture at Fairlane was done by Buky Schwartz? This was in the court in front of the former Sears.
I love the font Mammoth used. Only wish I knew the name of this font....
Last national chains left at Northgate Mall are Hot Topic and Finish Line, just to note. This mall lost Bath and Body Works & few other national chains(forget other ones, I saw it in Reddit post), in early 2025. Many Northgate's former national mall chains have moved over to Stony Creek Town Center
Northgate Mall(Colerain Township, Cincy area) just note when I visited earlier this month only had 9 businesses(6 in storefronts, 2 kiosks, 1 in food court). A jewelry store is closing now, & once that closes there will only be 5 storefronts open. Burlington last anchor, but inside entrance sealed.
Early/mid 2000s was 1st time I visited a Hot Topic store, myself. It still seems weird run into malls where they closed store. Thinking about when I saw Westland(Detroit area), earlier 2025 as it was closing. They still operate deader malls I visited, like Northgate(Cincinnati, OTOH has yet close).
I forgot how great this song was. Weirdly don't think I've watched the music video for this song, till now. But I liked it. Also I'm glad I saw Squeeze in concert in 2010s. If my memory is right(correct me if wrong) they still do tour, & they're great see live if you ever have a chance.
RFK Jr. is so lame. I wish he do one or 2 lone good things while in office, like ban the use by food and drink companies of high fructose corn syrup. But I'm not holding my breath and worried he won't do that. It'd be nice if he did impose a HFCS ban.....
What places do you like to visit in Goshen? I'd love to hear your suggestions.
I'm w/you completely that this off topic comment about the Israel & Gaza conflict was unnecessary. Couldn't a comment on video games just stay on topic, & not remind me of this conflict? FTR, I find what Israel is doing Palestinians as being awful. A video game post is NOT the time to bring that up
I almost forgot about the "everything about the music" slogan Hot Topic used to use, as late as 2008. Btw there is only 1 Hot Topic store left with the pre-2009 logo(per myself doing an extensive image & HT location search on Google maps recently), & that location is Sierra Vista, Arizona
I think you're right about Hot Topic. It was like around like the early or mid 2000s they slowly began to change their merchandise, where it became less goth like and more on popular internet trends. Would've been interesting if Hot Topic considered your idea for a shirt.....
Maybe I'll visit Goshen in person one day. In late 2010s I felt inspired to do trip Elkhart, as I wanted to squeeze in a visit to the early 1970s vintage Concord Mall before closing. Was taking South Shore Line & relying on several local buses to get to Concord, only reason I didn't get Goshen.
Please pardon my typo in first sentence of my post, I meant to say sights. I am still trying to figure out an exact or at least year Ace Animal Hospital closed in Portage Park, but I believe it was sometime in about the early 2010s. May check its reviews later to see if I can estimate the year
Two sites I caught last year, while I still could. The pharmacy part of the neon sign at the Wilson/Clark Walgreens no longer comes on at night, and 2nd picture is catching demolition of Ace Animal Hospital barely before building was demolished in Portage Park last year. And while its sign was up
That's good to hear. One day(have to watch Netflix at someone else's house), I'll watch the last episodes. Used to be able to watch Netflix at my house, but they had that stupid password sharing crackdown where I lost access because of that. :(
The older you get, the more you don't think about people's exact ages anymore. Heck, I'm now in my early 40s....
I'd also really like to see both of Jackson, MI's malls. Might be a little more intrigued by history Westwood Mall, but I'd also want to see Jackson Crossing.
I'm thinking in the future about doing a more in depth trip to cover non-Detroit area malls in east half lower MI. Which ones do u really like besides Midland? I'd also like to see all Flint area malls more closely, & perhaps Bay City(if just b/c I'm really intrigued by 80s Spencer's storefront).
