An excellent and clear-eyed op-ed from a valued colleague about the devastating effects of crippling American science
I wrote an op-ed for voters in a red state about how devastating NIH indirect cuts are. This type of writing isn’t my comfort zone, but I think we as scientists need to get the word out. Happy to chat with others looking to do the same in their communities!

This article--on the systematic dismantling of the NIH, NSF, and CDC--is a must-read not only for researchers and clinicians but for anyone who has ever gotten a vaccine, taken medication, read the results of a research study, or gotten tested for Covid, flu, or STIs.

Colleen Kelley was kind and supportive to me, early in my career. We would catch up periodically at conferences, & she was one of my senior colleagues I’d email with about memory stuff in my younger days. And what a research career! 1/a few
For anyone who knew her or her work, Colleen Kelley passed away this week. Colleen was a great person who also happened to do some truly brilliant research. I always appreciated my conversations with Colleen. She was wonderful for helping me and others think.

A lil quote from me in this promo for a study just out in Science! Something like volitional mental time travel in rats: Rat is on a spherical treadmill moving about a virtual space while place cells are recorded. 1/n
Rats can ‘imagine’ places they’ve previously visited
Virtual reality study suggests that rodents, like humans, are capable of mental navigation
