The racial attacks on Mamdani by folks those who scream about freedom of religion and antisemitism, has actually been helpful. I'm glad those people took off their masks, so we know who they are in the future.
As Toni Morrison said, "the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work." But she also reminded us never to lose our capacity to be shocked.
