After fighting for his #freedom for 17 years, LaShawn Fitch was released on Thursday after being pardoned by the governor of #NewJersey. Fitch, who became a paralegal in prison, plans to continue to fight for others and for a full #exoneration.

OIP has been active, organizing numerous events, in the push with others to abolish the #deathpenalty in Ohio. On Wednesday, a new joint effort among more than 50 groups nationally was launched to advocate for change on this issue.

Two years ago, the actual perpetrator fully confessed to a murder and who was involved. He absolved Michael Pearson, who he didn't even know, but it still took two more years from Pearson's life before the system freed him.

Adding to a flurry of good news this #Thanksgiving week, Jimmie Duncan was freed in #Louisiana on Wednesday after 27 years on death row and was able to spend the holiday with his family.

One of the most inspiring stories this week is the election of former jailhouse lawyer Calvin Duncan to the office of Clerk of Courts for Orleans Parish, which includes #NewOrleans. Duncan served 28 years in prison after his #wrongfulconviction.
