Prestige journalism is full of people like this

One post-pandemic trend I have gotten sick of is how so many people look like slobs in public now.

"But it's comfortablllleeee-" Stop. You don't have to wear a suit, but jesus christ pull yourself together a bit more.

This, and the lack of basic decorum is turning me into left-wing George Will.
One underrated aspect of Zohran is that he always wears a suit, always presents himself professionally while still doing fun and approachable retail politics. You don’t have to drape yourself yourself in hypebeast and post thirst traps, you can be fucking grown up respecting the office and be fun

It's really funny that despite all the anti-humanities sophistry and mindless tech worship of the past 20 years, being able to harness the skillset of a theater kid is probably close to essential for gaining political power nowadays.

(Competently exercising said power, OTHOH - different skillset)
Not trying to pick on Gallego in particular or anything but when people ask me what the difference between a skilled on-camera performer like Mamdani and a charismatic, practiced public speaker but with no on-camera training is, this video is a good example of the latter
Trump’s tearing down the East Wing to build himself a $350M ballroom while Americans struggle to afford health care.

Senator Ruben Gallego went to the site of the Trump teardown.

ordinary americans are filming ice agents and trying to save their neighbors. for all the hemming and hawing during 2024 about how democracy was an elite concern, the elites gave up far more quickly than average people.

There are some people who get to talk like this. People who grew up in an affluent family on Long Island, graduated from Williams College, host a podcast for a living and have literally worked in the fucking White House are not among them.

Not returning your shopping cart back after you load your car is a sign of poor character*.

*Parents dealing with infants/toddlers excepted (but even then, plenty of them *do* return their carts)
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I will also note that even YouTube is pulling this shit. After the Charlie Kirk murder, it was wall-to-wall coverage for a week, despite me manually downvoting every single of those videos.

Any saturation similar coverage of the largest mass protests in US history? Nope. Makes you think!
They like Trump and want to help him rule over us as a king
More people marched today than at any time in the history of the United States.

For @nytimes.com, it was the 6th most important story.

They are making sure that those in power do not see what they do not want to see.

This is not what we were brought up to think of as journalism.

i do not think ezra klein genuinely grieves for charlie kirk. i think ezra klein thinks it’s professionally advantageous to perform grief.

They didn't workshop this one enough. JD "Dunce" is right there. Take the layup!
while I generally like the mocking spirit, "JD 'JUST DANCE' VANCE" is a world-historic flop of an epithet. back to the drawing board, Gavin.
Gavin Newsom just posted this on Instagram

The NYT would likely have the biggest viral piece in their history if they had their visual team do dedicated timeline/infographic on PedoCon theory. Their readership would eat it up.

Weird they haven't pursued it!
everytime i post "the media likes trump and wants to help him" someone always replies with "yup! he's good for ratings and clicks!" and a way you can tell it's not about ratings and clicks is that they shy away from publishing stories about trump and epstein, which are newsworthy and very popular
If I were a Politics Editor, I'd be assigning Epstein timelines, explainers, etc etc etc. Almost everyone has missed/forgotten almost everything about this story along the way. I'm extremely online and just read dude's Wikipedia page for the first time last night, realizing I knew like 10% of it

In honor of Joe Rogan publicly expressing reservations about the president he went out of his way to elect, please enjoy this (genuinely) incredible exploration of what his Whole Deal is all about.

It's like if Adam Curtis decided to focus solely on morons. It's great.

There a reason the protests are being covered differently from the Tea Party

The Tea Party was a front for the wealth class that owns the media and were used to demonize necessary reform

These protests were democratic and populist, which the wealth class and its media opposes

Hope that helps

This, 100% 👇

By far, one of the worst trends of the modern internet has been the growth of video-based commentary, where they take 10+ tedious fucking minutes to ramble through substantive points you could have read in text format in like 3 minutes.
I feel like all of this is 100% true and probably contributes to the right-wing alternative media domination among The Youth.

I don't see this getting better.

The GOP is extremely fortunate they were able to hand off their disasters to Democrats to function as the national sin eaters - Obama for the financial crisis, Biden for COVID and inflation.

Not gonna happen this time. They have to sidle up to the table and slurp a huge bowl of their own shit.
i also think the perceptions from the economic pain that is coming is gonna be extremely sticky because the GOP isn't gonna be able to hand it off to the Democrats to fix for them
i do not think the american public is going to respond well to the supply shocks that are currently rushing toward us

I am also beyond exasperated with tech dickheads who got lucky many years ago purporting to be philosopher kings or general purpose public intellectuals.
as an aside I am.... fatigued...by CEOs and rich people pretending to be anthropologists, sociologists, and otherwise exceptionally gifted in understanding much of anything, much less why poor rural Americans are prone to electorally self-immolate
