Nova Scotians of all ages celebrate the spooky season. It’s also a time when we see an influx of injuries and visits to emergency rooms. Follow these safety tips to ensure young and old have a fun and safe Halloween:

After many hours of debating, voting, and reporting, the 53rd Convention of the Nova Scotia Federation has adjourned.

The NSNU extends congratulations to Melissa Marsman, the new president of the NSFL. We look forward to working closely with Melissa, a highly experienced labour leader.
Staff walked out due to impasses in contract negotiations, citing compensation and job security as the main issues.

In typical fashion, members of the NSNU showed their support for unionized workers and fellow labour advocates with their union colours on full display.
At a rally this morning, participants at the 53rd Convention of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour demonstrated their solidarity with CUPE Local 3912, part-time faculty at St. Mary’s University and Mount Saint Vincent University.
The NSNU congratulates the NSFL on their 53rd gathering, themed A New Way Forward. The meetings run until end of day tomorrow promising to inspire lively debate, productivity, and comradery.
With great enthusiasm, and within minutes of the call to order, attendees launched into chorus singing a union staple, Solidarity Forever. Written in 1915, it is perhaps one of the most famous union anthems and a uniting mantra.
Close to 30 NSNU members, and many other fierce union activists, gathered in Halifax yesterday to kickstart the 53rd Convention of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour.

CFNU is leading the creation of a national council to implement nurse-patient ratios – a vital tool for the safety of both nurses and patients. The council will include government representatives, employers, academics and nurses’ unions.
As a guest at the New Brunswick Nurses Union's 51st AGM, NSNU President Janet Hazelton addressed nurses from our neighbouring province in Moncton today, bringing best wishes and sharing the Nova Scotia nursing experience.

Canada’s nurse union leaders have a strong message for health ministers when they meet in Calgary this week: violence is not and should never be part of the job.

CFNU is calling on health ministers to use every tool they have to end violence against health care workers.

Today, we stand in solidarity with nurses across the country and renew our commitment to making mental health a priority.
World Mental Health Day is a reminder of the need to care for our mental well-being.

The CFNU has adopted the phrase “There is no health without mental health” as a core resolution, underscoring the reality that mental health is inseparable from overall wellness.
Today, we acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable contributions made by our emergency nurses. After years of challenges and crises in emergency departments, these nurses continue to provide outstanding care.
Their efforts are appreciated, their work is valued, the NSNU is proud to represent them.
We also want to thank the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union for their unwavering commitment to the teaching profession and the positive impact they have on the education system in Nova Scotia.

Behind every nurse who cares for Nova Scotians, there were teachers who nurtured curiosity, encouraged learning and helped shape their path to nursing. Today, we celebrate their commitment to educating young Nova Scotians.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) represents over 55,000 members working for Canada Post. On numerous occasions this past year, CUPW has taken job action due to unsatisfactory negotiations and failed attempts to resolve outstanding issues at the table. #SolidarityInAction
While in Ottawa for meetings with the CFNU NEB, NSNU’s President Janet Hazelton, 1st VP Donna Gillis & Executive Director Chris Albrecht joined forces with other labour leaders (Including CUPW's Jim Gallant from NS) at a rally this morning across from Parliament in support of CUPW.

This is a reminder to our members who are eligible for Nursing Practice and/or Nursing Leadership Premiums that the deadline for submission of proof of eligibility is October 31st. These premiums offered to qualifying nurses to recognize and encourage nursing leadership activities.
To our Indigenous NSNU members, we mourn with you and pledge to make the failures of past generations the opportunities of the next. As we share, listen and learn from one another, we will continue to strengthen our communities and build a stronger province that is more inclusive and equitable.
