still thinking about that medieval teens chucking swords in rivers skeet. i would ABSOLUTELY see a knight in expensive plate and slide up to his horse, score the billet strap, + laugh heartily at the sight of him and the saddle sliding right off... that would hit. then the groom would be killed BUT,

as I've remarked before, cyberpunk isn't 'I glitch into the webframe and draw my katana', it's 'the life of a man working for a criminal syndicate in Myanmar who spends his days pretending to be different women online to steal from the elderly'
People are dying over who gets to steal from a dude in Iowa who thinks the model who "accidentally" texted him has fallen in love with him.
the Thai-Cambodian conflict is at least partially about control of the scam/gambling/prostitution compounds along the border.

This is model trains
Alright, hear me out: cozy wargames.

All the fun of gluing tiny parts to plastic models and then painting them, but with 98% less Catholicism.

I really feel like this is an untapped market.

based on how often the naughty teens of major cities throw the rentable scooters directly into the river i've formed a theory that the many iron age swords and cauldrons found in lakes around europe that we've previously assumed were ceremonial and sacrificial in nature were in fact thrown by teens

you can love your friends so, so much. unfortunately, if you have no choice but to live with them, there will come a day you want to drive them into a lake. this is recoverable. but the longer you're stuck the more of these days will come

i know it's trite but: most science fiction is not trying to predict the future.

i keep seeing people stumbling over this. "well, it wouldn't be plausible to have--" okay but maybe the author wasn't trying for "plausible." usually they aren't.

what other goals might the author have had?

Also USPS didn't loss money because it doesn't make money because it's not a business and if never makes money to begin with.

It did however deliver over 112.5 billion pieces of mail in 2024 and that doesn't even include packages.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

People need to boycott this show and not just half ass. Shame everyone who plans on watching it. This isn't about Eurovision, it's about Israel getting away with committing genocide because THERE ARE NEVER ANY CONSEQUENCES. They should be untouchable by now. Everybody needs to walk the fucking walk.
Eurovision has allowed Israel to compete in 2026.

Ireland, Spain, Slovenia, and the Netherlands have pulled out of the competition following the decision.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

the HORSES affair is a startlingly low bar to cross to see if people actually care about protecting games from censorship of upsetting themes because it's far tamer and has way more moral clarity than a lot of stuff that doesn't get banned. but it's also very clarifying to see who can't cross it
