Exciting news from GNB - Free radon testing is coming to libraries across #NewBrunswick.

1 in 4 homes in the province have unsafe levels of radon, the leading cause of lung cancer after smoking - testing is a simple first step towards knowing how to keep yourself safe.

It is now easier for New Brunswickers to test their homes for radon gas.

Starting today, you can visit your local library to get a free kit that includes a 90-day test and other important information about radon gas.

Our friends at BC Lung have launched Carters project, getting air quality monitors into remote communities.

NB Lung's CEO is speaking at the #NewBrunswick legislature today about much-needed updates to the Clean Air Act, which has is failing to protect New Brunswickers and has not been updated since 1997.

Preliminary info from GNB suggest that the updated act will include more pollutants to be tracked...

Canada's national standard is 8.8 micrograms of PM 2.5 per cubic metre; the World Health Organization's standard is five. In 2023, Canadians were exposed to 9.2 micrograms per square metre, or 1.5 times 2022 levels. And more than half of Canadians breathed air that surpassed that national standard.

Most restrictions that were placed on Crown lands due to the high risk of wildfires will be removed at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. A burn ban, however, will remain in place.
