It was 4 months after he left that I stopped feeling guilty for every headache, and fear with every shower. After 8 months I felt arousal again for the first time in years, and a full year before I felt safe in my own bed. It wasn’t menopause. It was him.

I was 33 the first time he told me it must be early menopause. I said no it couldn’t be. He said his sister said it could be. I never asked myself why he was talking to his sister about us. I only apologized and said I would try harder. And I did. I tried and tried and tried.
