Okay, so, The Oak Tree is dead. (Long life The Oak Tree.) But don't fret. Or fret, but also pay attention: I've started a NEW #webcomic. Don't you like new things? It's new. It's called Heck Yeah! and here's the 1st one. I'll publish them once every once in a while.

In a way Trump and Mamdani are similar. They are both populists fighting against the elite, it's just who they see as "the elite" differs.

Mamdani sees the elite as the billionaires who control the economic, political, and social systems of society.

Trump sees the elite as people who read books.

A short story I wrote was rejected from an anthology but then their preorder just went up with horrific, blatantly AI generated cover art. I’ll never submit a piece to them again. Sometimes, a loss becomes a surprising win.

More shilling! Color Space is an awesome 2-player abstract mint tin game. If you're looking for indie board game holiday gifts to stick in people's socks (I've heard people do that), this is one of them. Order now to make sure you get it before Dec 25, baby: mutantpizza.square.site/product/colo...

The 1st episode of an irregularly published #webcomic, made by yours truly. (Me, Mutant Pizza, I'm the truly.) I'm going the extra foot to post this on here directly instead of from mutantpizza.net. I will never go the extra mile, though, so future ones'll be linked posts.

Seeing all the creativity coming out of these markets cemented something I’ve been feeling for a while. The “pitch to a publisher” pipeline as the norm really stifles game design. There’s so much creativity out there, it just needed an outlet.

Nine Muses 2E: Design Journal No 1

I'm reimagining my debut game, Nine Muses, as a card game in this 2nd edition. It's in the early stages right now, but I'm sharing some playtest session insights AND giving everyone a sneak peak at a work in progress piece of art for the game. #boardgames
Nine Muses 2E: Design Journal #1
Nine Muses was my debut game, I self-published it through the Game Crafter and itch.io back in 2022. I spent a year and a half working on the game. There's a lot that goes into making a game: Creating the systems and mechanics, illustrating artwork, UI and UX design to make sure those mechanics translate well onto the assets. It was my first time experiencing all of this.

I was working on a 1-page RPG but it might end up turning into a 1-page skirmish type of game. Have I betrayed all that is holy in the realm of TRRPGs?

Nah, it just didn’t end up having any role play to it.

Graphic Design is My Passion: Design Journal No 2

This is a long one. I dive into three playtest sessions of the game and share my insights and what to expect from the next iteration. #boardgames #boardgamedesign
Graphic Design is My Passion: Design Journal #2
Party games come with a tricky design space. There's a fine line between too complex and too rudimentary, between too difficult and too easy. Party games seem effortless to set up and play, and that's the design challenge right there: To create that environment for players. You want games that can be played with large groups of people, where there aren't too many rules, where they don't have to follow every exact movement of their allies or opponents to be sucessful when it's their turn.
