Cannot find money for high speed rail to Manchester. Can find £49bn for a third runway at Heathrow apparently. For more flights to Manchester, perhaps?

I've had a day off and it's been rainy. So I've built a Metcalfe house pair in N. I love doing these. Quite fiddly in this scale but such a nice way to while away a few hours...

And that's it. Goodnight to my 30s.

I see the green packet is no longer just mozzarella. Indeed, only 50% is mozzarella.

Honestly, did they just go to the marketing team and say "please this time just try and make it look more far-right than Reform"?

Trump wants to destroy the BBC and take our money. And Nigel Farage is egging him on.

All true patriots should tell them both: hands off our BBC.

Sohren hasn't had a railway station in a while. It still won't, but there's evidence here of efforts to refurbish the line (Hunsrückquerbahn) for freight. I'm assuming they aren't too bothered about the track straightness, when the speed limit in places will be 10-20 km/h... 😂

Stansted airport is a great advert for international train travel. I remember why I avoid flying...

Just had an interview for the first time in about seven years. As someone who isn't keen on selling *himself*, competency questions are less than delightful.

Oh go on then... I went on a few trains a couple of years ago.

This is out in a new restoration in UHD. It looks stunning so far. I got emotional in 4K.

I have a sudden craving for crisps. We have no crisps in the house. Crisps!

I've walked around the shops fretting for about half an hour about what I want for dinner and the brain mist isn't getting any clearer. I've gone and sat myself down in the M&S café with a tea and some Victoria sponge in the hope I'll calm down.

Also, LOOK AT THIS CARPET in the New Theatre. Most of it has been replaced but this, up on the balcony, is what it looked like when I used to come here as a child. All the seedy glamour of a regional touring theatre in the later 20th century...

Had a lovely time seeing The Divine Comedy live at the New Theatre in Oxford (almost called it the Apollo. It hasn't been the Apollo for at least twenty years). Neil Hannon was in fine voice and the band were excellent. Now when can I see them again?

Following the installation of the new boiler, the hot tap in the kitchen can't really cope with the water pressure and is whining. I just turned the tap on and recognisably got the first four notes of Elgar's "Nimrod"...

I'm in the office every day at the moment as one of my field-based colleagues accidentally went home with my laptop charger and isn't in until later this week. IT won't lend me a charger for more than a working day at a time...
