I just want to note that it is fucking incredible that he repeatedly has ripped Casey for his supposed conflict of interest in having a partner working for Anthropic while he himself is personally doing PR for AI
Like it’s a horrible bubble and I hate almost every heavily marketed application of it, but it clearly has *some* valid uses
If you think EZ’s only opining on AI *economics*, you should familiarize yourself with his oeuvre a little better. That’s his focus, but he frequently implies/suggests that the technology is entirely useless, which is just… not true? And only something you could say from ignorance or dishonesty rly

i mean, harris ran the campaign they’re advocating for. it probably etched out an extra point or two but that was never as important as the macropolitical enviroment (backlash from covid inflation) which, via association with joe biden, harris could not escape.
the democratic party’s basic problem is it has almost no control over how its message reaches the ears of voters, especially outside of presidential election years. but rather than devote serious time, attention and cash to that problem its consultants and pundits want to fight factional battles
He’s also among the most thin-skinned guys who ever lived, and entirely out of his depth when he tries to interview someone thoughtful

I used to feel more positively about his role in tech criticism, but the longer I’ve watched, the more it’s like… oh 😬
Dawg GCP caused an outage of comparable magnitude like 4 months ago
Maintaining a design choice that was always present is definitionally not enshittification

This is like when people call disagreeing with them in any context gaslighting
I canceled when they let Balko go, approximately a million years ago at this point it feels like
I’m sure somebody will be showing up to tell us this is BlueAnon any minute now, but come the fuck on, he obviously had a stroke

Note that this doesn’t mean he’s dying anytime soon! Just, you know, don’t ignore the thing you could obviously see with your own eyes
Ie: his facial droop when he’s tired, his periodic slurred speech, and ataxic gait.

This could be a normal part of recovery, or it could mean further infarct / brain injury.

You do MRI’s on a schedule to measure further infarct VS standard recovery. This is why he goes to Walter Reed.
Also, because it’s been bothering me, this is not what enshittification means! I’m not even a huge Doctorow guy, but if the term means anything other than “bad,” it specifically refers to degrading a UX that people like over time to extract additional revenue
Even if you can’t get the accent, and Americans do have a very hard time differentiating British accents, he has a very distinctive cadence!
To give one prominent example, Smartsheet had the same problem on almost a billion in revenue, and Signal is a nonprofit with maybe 30 million in revenue? Also Reddit, Snapchat, Venmo, etc
The idea that making *any* significant architectural change to something operating at the scale of Signal is “trivial” suggests that you don’t know what you’re talking about, sorry
Failure-proofing an app against an outage of a major piece of backbone infrastructure is just… very difficult? Bordering on impossible? Some entire software products with huge revenue streams were down! And Signal is not that
My child, 4, is fascinated with the cat we had who died while my wife was pregnant with him and whose ashes are in a cedar box in our bedroom, and we’ve had some real fuckin weird “child kinda seems to know things about the dead cat he couldn’t possibly know” conversations about that
Little kids say the weirdest shit sometimes. Not in like a “Kids Say the Darnedest Things” way but in a very haunted way

If the McDonald’s catches up with the current guy Vance might get a period as 48, but yes

The relationship between how funny a post is to you and how funny it is to anyone else is an inverted parabola, also known as the Laugher Curve
My last job had 9/75 (one day off every two weeks, slightly longer days), but as they called us back to the office for more and more of the work week, I lost all that time commuting basically
Yeah I interviewed at one, was *desperate* to get it but failed to convince
