We have enough car parks to power the country. But more importantly, the car parks are generally very close to where we use the power, unlike the majority of farmland. If we add batteries and/or thermal storage, we could decentralise the grid.

It's very simple to solve. In most of Scandinavia, they made it illegal to turn off wind turbines. Now during any excess they store it thermally and use it later to heat homes. Here's one in Denmark that provides heat and hot water to 790 homes.
