Funny old piece, parts of it almost as if Coughlan's saying Labour already won the C.G.T argument this time, or at least this round. He suggests that it's Christopher Luxon who has to kill it. Then neglects to mention Hipkin's going for Luxon's CGT jugular, Luxon's squeak "It's not about me!" #NZPol
Thomas Coughlan: It's a Nat leader's job to kill CGTs – is Christopher Luxon up to it?
There's more riding on Labour's CGT for Luxon than Labour's Chris Hipkins.

Yeah NZME was always this, it definitely feels very depressing that Stuff has joined them. I'm not certain that means the rest are complicit, corporate media has always been a bubble.

The hard bit is how much National have succeeded in ruining RNZ as an alternative, and how much Labour let them.

Also has the NZ media even reported on the OIA by NZATE (I think it was) that returned evidence that David Seymour logged in to a Google Doc of the English curriculum rewrite and started making his own edits to it, completely outside the chain of responsibility and Ministry procedures?

Our economic catastrophe of the last three years in chart form.
Here's the change from 'peak jobs' for each industry. Clear that public sector spending has prevented total labour market meltdown. Seymour will be furious. [3/3]

'Resisting AI' foreshadowed much of our technofascist moment, but a lot has happened since publication. Why does a broken tech attract such huge commitments? How can it burn so much energy yet claim to save the planet? And can decomputing offer an escape from AI-drive nihilism?
On Monday, I'll be talking with Andrés Saenz de Sicilia of The Philosopher magazine about why it's more important than ever to resist AI, and how we can develop a convivial technopolitics. Register for free at www.thephilosopher1923.org/events/ai-an...
Yes, there are definitely true believers at Stuff, that's fair. I don't think the rest of the industry is all in exactly the same boat though
It's infuriating but I really just think this is the same complacent corporate media culture we've had that regards us as overreacting in our little bubble and is just focused on coping with being overworked and pressured for RW 'balance' from their bosses. 🙄

Emily (Emily Writes) and I drafted a letter to Andrew Little about his decision to appoint Ray Chung as chair of the CCO Review & Appointments subcommittee. We think this is unacceptable given his past behaviour. Here's a template for a letter if you agree:

Really, Andrew Little?
Andrew Little has appointed Ray Chung to head an important Wellington City Council committee. We don't think he should be doing that. If you agree, please tell him so. Here's how.

NZF and ACT. It's the old 'dog bites man isn't news' problem. 🙄

Why are random citizens consistently, and continuously, turning up major scandals by the government that NZ media are both *incapable of finding* AND refuse to report on even when they learn about it via citizen journalism???

This is what I expected from the government, but it's incredibly disappointing that Autism New Zealand should go along with it. We need to make "regular" schools cater to neurodivergent students — which will benefit everyone! — not segregate difference.
Government announces new charter school for secondary students with autism
The government has announced the Autism NZ Education Hub will start in Term 3 for neurodivergent secondary students who are struggling with traditional schooling.

It owes that even if it's not deliberately supressing employment. Survival is job one.

Cool how we say to our kids “you can be whatever you want to be” but the reality is that for women and girls who might want to be in public life, we’re actively doing almost nothing to prevent gender based violence - it is currently a deliberate choice to allow this in our policy and in our culture.
The more women and girls engage in public life, the more likely they are to be subjected to online gender based violence. There are few safety nets for women and girls in leadership. #nzpol

This is consistent with what we have seen in NZ for several diseases- that the area under the curve over time is lower, even if there is a reintroduction spike that is fairly high for a short while.
I mean, the open corruption and accelerating social murder are kinda their respective missions, though?

why don't we get this headline about National, ACT or NZF for open corruption, internal backstabbing and accelerating social murder?
it's really quite impressive to be a red flag without even metaphorically opening your mouth
why am I thinking of adult dudes on snapchat only talking to women suddenly, lol

I’m tired of the media ignoring Trump’s illegal acts. ‘Trump to Raise Tariffs’. ‘Trump to Lower Tariffs’. These acts are illegal. The correct headline is: ‘The Wannabe Dictator illegally Raises Tariffs While the Cowards in the Senate Abdicate Their Responsibility’. Same with SNAP, ICE Thugs….

Welch: "This has nothing to do with the shutdown. The law requires and the funds are available to continue SNAP right now without any interruption. So that is a decision the president is making on his own to allow people to go hungry."
