That's very true, and is a trap a lot of people fall into. Even if they were making a factually correct claim, their attitude would be the issue and running down the details can get you way off base. But there is a social purpose to it sometimes, I think.

He's answered this line of questioning as exhaustively as could be expected of any candidate but each time he's asked it's treated as though it's for the first time.

They do ask him, when he says he supports Israel's right to exist, but not as a Jewish state, and he always says some variation of 'those states also have no right to exist as a theocratic, hierarchical state without equal rights for all citizens.' But it gets ignored for another gotcha.

It doesn't help that a lot of our media, which people are relying on exclusively to learn about the Nazis, has a tendency to portray them using visual tropes derived from their propaganda, e.g. in the manner they would have preferred to have been depicted.
