Prompts as simple as "[name] address" immediately returned accurate home addresses of private citizens — alongside other personal info we didn't ask for.

A lot of suicide attempts, especially among young people, are impulsive, which means that throwing up even temporary obstacles can save lives. It's not true that everyone who gets advice on how to kill themselves from an LLM would have figured it out anyway. These tools are causing avoidable deaths.
I am a suicide attempt survivor so I’m kind of selfishly interested in prevention and, again, while it may difficult to completely prevent IDEATION, what ChatGPT does (despite guardrails!) is *cheerlead and facilitate* completion. You can come back from ideation but not a chat-optimized completion.
This is not true. This is argument that pro-gun people use to discount red flag and waiting period laws. Ease of access and lethality (let alone cheerful instruction in the best method!) is the #1 predictor of attempts leading actual completion. The more barriers, the more people live.

It may sound radical, but if one guy has so much wealth and power that he can use the large newspaper he owns to publicly threaten to ruin a service we all rely on, presumably as a bargaining tactic to get lower rates, we probably need to tax that guy until he can't do that anymore.

It should be said that basically all prisons and jails that are State run have for-profit parts. The food, phone calls, medical care, and even visitations are monetized by corporations with no real oversight or accountability.
One of the most destructive institutions in our nation is the for-profit prison system. Corporations lining their pockets by keeping people in prison and punishing them financially for being there. Lining the pockets of elected reps to do it.
This has to stop.

"Defund the Police" became a rallying cry simply because the national Democratic Party had zero policy around law-enforcement reform, so activists filled the vacuum.

If the party doesn't want fringe groups speaking for them, it should start speaking for itself.
damn if only we had a national democratic party that could help mobilize these instead of a loose assemblage of leftwing groups that are mostly volunteer based and therefor prone to entryism from any fringe actor with money

the main problem with British politics is that transphobia brainworms infected basically all of their elites (which, yes, everyone being too online)

you cannot effectively fight back against people who want ethnic purges when you want gender purges
a lot of it genuinely comes down to the fact that almost all their elites were too online on X and the post-Musk thing has basically driven the socially conservative, fiscally socialist types insane (see e.g. the Blue Labour guy) and the right is basically now calling for ethnic purges
The UK is weird and getting weirder right? Thats not my imagination? I know that's rich coming from an American, but still, I'm right on this arent I?
