Day 12

Gunship on the C64 (1986)

Go flying in the coolest combat helicopter ever created, the AH-64 Apache, and take on missions in five different theatres of war. Gunship is one of the great flight sims of the 80s and still remains a landmark game.

Day 11

Farming Simulator 19 on PC (2018)

The subject matter may be niche, but as a business simulator, this is one of the best, with loads of machinery to use and crops to grow, and plenty of missions to complete within the time limits.

Day 10

This game allows you control of four M1 Abrams tanks in a fictitious European war against the Soviets. The game lets you play either directly or strategically, and as such was a first for this sort of game.

Day 8

Wings 2 on the SNES (1992)

Not a patch on the original game, this still retains the evocative feel of the original, but the gameplay elements are far more arcade like in their style. The other flaw is that the game is far shorter and is too easy.

Day 7

Silent Service on the C64 (1985)

Not the first submarine game, but the first to be really a really detailed simulation, is set in the Pacific Theatre of WWII, and sees you hunting Japanese shipping and destroying them.

Day 4

Southern Belle on the ZX Spectrum (1985)

A rather niche game that involves driving a steam train from London to Brighton. The rudimentary vector graphics are still reasonably effective, but outside of railway buffs, other gamers may find it dull.

Day 3

Sims 4 on the PS4 (2017)

The most current and most updated of the Sims series is a nice sedate sort of simulation game that is easily approached and can draw you in as you control the lives of your virtual people.

Day 2

BMX Simulator on the C64 (1986)

One of the best of the slew of Codemasters simulator related titles is an overhead racing game with a number of tracks and all the usually ramps and jumps you’d expect. For a budget game, this is a terrific title.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 31

Dead Space on the PS3 (2008)

To call this Resident Evil in space would be to give a little disservice to the quality of this game, but that’s essentially what it is. It’s also very scary with some great monsters to fight. Highly recommended.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 30

Xenophobe in the Arcade (1987)

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 29

The Muncher on the C64 (1994)

As bizarre licenses go, one based on the short lived Chewits monster is up there, but this is a decent game with a ginormous main sprite and a goal that involves destroying as many buildings a possible.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 28

Litil Devil on the Amiga CD32 (1994)

A very impressive looking arcade adventure for the ill fated CD32 makes this game look like a must play, but the game is quite repetitive in places with a lot of the gameplay feeling like padding.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 27

Frank N Stein on the ZX Spectrum (1984)

A fun little platform game that takes a little more thought than the reactions of most platformers, as you play Frank, a man who likes building monsters. Body parts need to be collected in the right order.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 25

King of the Monsters in the Arcade (1991)

A rather underwhelming beat em up with characters based on movie monsters with destructive environments. Fun, but doesn’t really do anything that we hadn’t seen a hundred times before.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 24

Aaargh on the Atari ST (1989)

A rather pedestrian action beat em up game from the ill fated Arcadia arcade system which eventually found its way to home machines. You’ll smash buildings looking for an egg and then have a fight with another monster.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 23

The Movie Monster Game on the C64 (1986)

An older Godzilla title, who gets a licensed appearance here, that has other, obviously inspired monsters, destroying cities and fighting the military. Fun, if a little limited.

31 Days of Monsters - Video Game Edition

Day 21

Monster House on the GameCube (2006)

Based on the animated film of the same name, this is a fun third person shooter that is enjoyable whilst it lasts. The problem is that it doesn’t last very long, as there’s only a few hours worth of game here.
