Sitting in an institution Club, sinking into a warm leather sofa, coal fire gently warming behind me, peaceful but for the russling of newspapers and hushed talk, christmas tree and decorations tastefully twinkling. I know none of this is PC but it is lovely. I do have an urge to shout BOGEYS though

reached that age when other half requested a 'really nice bone china mug for my tea' for his birthday and I was utterly on board with it instead of taking the piss. I got 4. Sipping our Twinnings like little princelings here.

Anyone know of any work on Gilt Strikes in the 1970s please? I have the usual (treasury/BoE/Government) but looking for more everyday detail. Thanks! #skyhistorians #economichistorians

'Survival capitalism' and the Big Bang: culture, contingency and capital in the making of the 1980s financial revolution by Emma Barrett is absolutely brilliant. I read it a bit last year, but reading it properly now I have more context and it is so, so good on so many levels

Have you, a family member or friend moved from council housing to renting privately?

I’m a PhD researcher looking into what drives these moves, how it impacts tenants' lives and their views of the council housing tenure.

Please reach out and share among your contacts! 👇

First morning back in the pool. Royally lost my shit at the misogynistic crap from Middle Aged Man Swimming Down the Middle Slowly. Not the way to start a Monday after a holiday. I wonder how many men stop women participating in sport in various everyday unchallenged agressions? Lots I would think.

Mum missed me when I left for uni. I sneaked home as a surprise, and jumped out at her and Dad for a laugh. But this was Northern Ireland in 1993, I was dressed in goth black, and Dad was police. The poor guy thought the IRA had come to kill him. Still feel awful about it.

When you spend a week confused and reading everything and tracing it backwards and you then realise one of your supervisors wrote the seminal paper. The OG. The proper OG. I am hopeless.

I am at a Danish sports resort in Spain. Lots of all nationalities, but I think there are a few Scottish triathlon teams training here. Either way, the bagpipes have been playing in the square since 10am.

Woah. To be fair the Danes seem to be taking this well here. Every other nationality (there are a lot) including the English were absolutely behind Scotland. Top night.

I'm going to get flamed for this but it you live amongst the flag hoisting, hotel 'campaigners' you very quickly realise this is the massive majority. Only those in London see it as a bubble but they are the minority. It's Brexit on steroids. Labour have to ramp up on asylum (I agree it abhorrent)
