I'm not much into beauty pageants. But I gotta tip my hat (bang my head) to this young lady from #Chile not playing to the typical stereotypes. Don't know which is cooler, her singing #DeathMetal in an evening gown or the dude's 9 string electric guitar www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwbZ...

I'm going to start the #30daymapchallenge in January 2026 and take about 4-5 months to complete it. But I will still use the hashtag. Just because that's how Punk Rock I am.

When I bought my house in 2002, Realtor (and parents) said I should cut down huge Silver Maple a foot from the east wall for safety. It’s stood for 23 years providing shade & swings. In the last 5, it’s lost leaves, limbs (onto roof), & lots of bark. Today it’s coming down. I won’t watch.

I appreciate your transparency here Bill. There's thought and logic to your decision. It's not just a 'Stick it to the Man' mentality. Also, after running ArcGIS in Parallels for about 8 years, the term “VM tax” is appropriate, performance suffers regardless of your host.

I mentioned in my previous post that, at a previous career stop, I built open-source support into our IT lifecycle. Specifically, we used QGIS. The primary reason we made that choice is that we were a Mac shop. It's true we could have run ArcGIS Pro inside Parallels, but I didn't see the need to pay the "VM tax" in terms of performance to use software that was essentially a match in capability to QGIS, which ran natively on MacOS.

We are headed to the 2025 #ILGISA Annual Conference in Lisle next week. We’ll be exhibiting and I'm presenting 2 sessions on Monday: 'Management Tips from Pixar: Leadership Lessons with Woody, Sully & Friends' (9am with Hunter Ray) & 'Email Will Kill Us All' (10:30 am) Not GIS but still relevant

I don't mind confrontation at all, but I'm not competitive. This makes me want to engage with people of differing views, but switch off as soon as they make it into a gotcha-game. It usually ends with something like "I don't know, I don't really follow that closely" #ThingsKnownAboutMyself

You must trust your team. Right now, as I type this, my team is having a closed door interview with a potential co-worker on her 2nd interview. I'm interested but not concerned. Freedom and Agency, not the illusion of it, builds trust in the #workplace when you are #Management. Lead well

Can we just pause for a second and note that a GIS Conference hosted in New Zealand has a presentation map right-side-up & centered for them. This is what I told students all the time, North is not up. I enjoy seeing it played out in real life. #GISChat

Yesterday evening, I just waved and watched as my Daughter, Son-in-law, & Granddaughter recklessly drove off, in their unarmored Prius, back home to the 'hellhole' City of Chicago. Miraculously, they arrived 2.5 hours later, unscathed. I think they stopped for groceries too. #politicalstunt

I hope this keeps up all season. I have nothing against UNC, other than their coach. He is not some kind of grand genius leader of men. His career just happened to align with #TomBrady for a while. (with 249-75, w/o 83-105) #creepcoach www.nbcnews.com/sports/colle...

I think they know exactly what they're doing. This has nothing to do with cost savings. If we reduce the ability to measure, and record data, then they hold the narrative. Or at least can cast doubt or existing datasets. If I can't see it, It doesn't exist.
Doesn't anyone in that group of apes (sorry apes) get that "things move" and we all share data for the benefit of all.

Not the tiktok part, but this is my genuine recommendation to students who don't know what to major in. #trades
Gen Z is learning about skilled trades on social media at a time when many have grown skeptical about the cost of college and the promise of white-collar employment.
Social media opens a window to traditional trades for young workers
Worker influencers are showing what life is like in fields such as construction, plumbing and manufacturing. Trade schools are trying to make the most of it.

Why is the : public-nps.opendata.arcgis.com - The National Park Service Open Data portal - asking me for a login?
Is this no longer public? It literally has public in the URL.
Does this mean I have to find a new data source for my student's lab exercise? (AGO doesn't have what I want)
