i'm actually struck by how pete hegseth isn't just a cowardly man but a capital-c Coward. a guy who gets off on abusing and hurting people he thinks are weaker than him and then tries to run and hide when there might be consequences

The United States government had nothing to say to commemorate World AIDS Day, the first time the nation has withheld official recognition since the World Health Organization established the day in 1988. https://bit.ly/4ouze0S

And for World AIDS Day today, I’m reposting this important, sensitive, and profound essay. We all had, and have, our lists of love.
For World AIDS Day, which is Dec. 1 and which is being ignored by the Trump administration because they dislike the World Health Organization, other countries, science, and queer people, I'm reposting a piece I wrote earlier this year. (They also hate history.) www.vulture.com/article/hiv-...

Did I weep during Bad Hats' NARNIA yesterday? (And with very sticky, marshmallowy fingers?) Don't worry about it.

But if you can brave the Distillery crowds, this show is such a treat.

Every year since 1988, the United States has recognized World AIDS Day — until now.

Why not? Maybe because the Trump administration doesn’t want to acknowledge that its foreign aid cuts led to nearly 150,000 deaths from AIDS, according to Boston University researchers.

Shameful.

Sharing this in honor of World AIDS Day. There is not one media corporation that would do this in 2025. I remember watching this as a kid and I think it really helped our generation to view AIDS as something that can happen to anyone, not as a moral failure like the they tried to tell us.

Today is World AIDS Day.

AIDS has killed 44 million people globally.

Over the years, we've learned that silence and stigma are huge contributors.

Yet, the State Department sent an email to employees stating “The US Government will not be commemorating World AIDS Day this year.”

Silence = Death
