The US-Canadian Road Safety Gap Is Getting Wider
Despite similar infrastructure and vehicle fleets, the US and Canada are going in very different directions when it comes to traffic safety. A new study breaks down the divergence.

This is really good!

I'd encourage anyone who has been feeling overwhelmed, scared, and defeated by what's been happening lately to watch this latest video by Ezra Klein.

It explains very well what is happening, how to look at it, and gives you some basic tools for handling news as we go forward.

The firm Stantec has been named. Put them on the shelf with Diamond Schmitt & Urban Strategies as corporate citizens who’ll take the cash to destroy part of the city (and here put lives at risk).
Stantec is working with the Ford gov't to rip out bike lanes in Toronto, despite the injunction that prevents this work taking place until March & despite the tens of thousands of Ontarians who don't want to see their money wasted ripping out perfectly good infrastructure we paid to put in:
Shame on you, Stantec

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

Awful images of the Malibu fire, where homes worth large sums were reduced to ashes.
Let us remember this Native American proverb, and how true it remains today:

Maybe instead of planning new arenas, we might consider some moonshot funding for pedestrian infrastructure? It's critically needed in my neighborhood.
Cincinnati installed a lot of pedestrian safety infrastructure in 2024
Cincinnati installed 64 pedestrian safety projects last year, but is only scheduled to complete 11 in 2025.
