What I admire in Milanovic is that he writes always non-obvious and thought-provoking pieces. About the leaders of the Russian Revolution, he notes "The future leaders of the October revolution were almost uniformly high-level intellectuals. (...)

Trump's economic policies are really the dream of economists obsessed with perfect identification strategies: most of his policies are completely randomly assigned/not correlated with current or past macroeconomic events. He is politically hideous, but at least he is the econometrist's best friend.

I spent more than a year working on this SEP entry on ideology, and I actually think it is some of the best work I've ever done.

There are three parts of it that I am especially happy with:

I'm excited to share my latest publication on the post-pandemic inflation debate. In addition to offering an overview of the discussion, I introduce a classification of the different profiles of argumentation.

The more I work on constructing large datasets, the more I appreciate theoretical work. At least with theory, I can avoid the time-consuming, repetitive and mindless task of data collection.

Besides - controversial point - I really doubt that very bold points can be made with empirical work.

Social media is good to complain about the world. So, here I am complaining about something. The OECD data explorer is simply terrible. They discontinued OECD stat well before having a stable version of their new platform. The site crushes every time. It is terrible.

As promised (threatened?), I made a starter pack of heterodox and political economists! You'll see a range of pluralist theories here, as well as some heterodox-friendly economists that may be more mainstream. go.bsky.app/J86RtKh

Unemployment weakens governments. Inflation kills. The politically destructive power of inflation had been forgotten. Standard policy tools left us unprepared and fueled inequality. Trump's re-election should serve as a warning.
