Every minute without a strong statement from the Irish government about the arson and attempted murder in Drogheda is another minute of silent acquiescence to the far right - by remaining silent, the govt is making it very clear which side they are on.

This Trump-ally billionaire's my neighbour. He's collecting estates: Conholt, Hippenscombe (of Ravilious fame) & Buttermere, & rents the one I live on, filling it with pheasants. A piece in the Telegraph seems to say locals 'mostly like' what he's doing. Not met one yet. @guyshrubsole.bsky.social
American billionaire Stephen Schwarzman, founder of Blackstone & owner of the 2,500-acre Conholt Park shooting estate in Wiltshire, has been tankering in huge quantities of water from drought-struck Hampshire to fill up his lake (legally, but outrageously):

The "legitimate concerns" narrative told us that opposition to immigration was popularly held, a fixed reality to be deferred to, and that support for immigration was marginal and elitist.

Wrong on multiple levels, and also helped radicalise big chunks of the political class towards the far right.
You'd never know it from some media and politicians but "The UK is among the countries with the least anti-immigration views in Europe. While in 2002-03 only 27% of the public felt immigration had a positive impact on the economy, this jumped to 66% in 2023-24." theconversation.com/what-britons...
