Nah. Even if I do prefer Shadow Gens, the original Sonic Generations still holds up to this day. The controls might be a bit stiff compared to Shadows but the game is built around that so it's not a problem. The only real problem is the final boss.
Sonic has had games with "grounded" art styles like the Adventure games and Unleashed that are clearly based of real life locations. And if its just for this game, then I dont mind that they try this.
The problem with Frontiers is less the environment itself, but rather the pop in being noticeable.
I mean, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, the Mother series. Not that they are completely forgotten, but a lot of younger people recognize them more because of Smash Bros rather than their own games.
I don't, I still think that Sonic Team has to prove themselves with their next big game. But compared to franchises like Pokémon or Halo, the franchise has been showing progress and earn some trust for what's coming, at least for me.
Like, I'm an OG Ratchet and Clank fan and I think that the current games have a lot of similar issues to Colors. But it doesn't change the fact that these games were and are being received well by general for a good reason.
They are good games at the end of the day even if I have problems as a fan
I mean, is it the same? Back then sonic was still seen in a good light despite the problems surrounding sega. People were excited for a brand-new sonic game in the gamecube.
Now, Halo is jumping to playstation with a remake and a lot of people are skeptical.
I do think that things will change ones everyone who was there in the beginning isn't anymore.
Like, people (rightfully) give Walt Disney shit, but he was also one of the main reasons why the company maintain such a consistent image until a certain point. Imagine the same thing for Nintendo.
Granted, there is also experimentation and learning what to take from the experience to make better games. Which considering Shadow Gens I say they succeeded.
Only hope they take the same lessons for the next big Sonic game.
"Good enough" was the endgame. A game that took what was popular at the time to bring attention to it and make money while having a small staff and budget.
Like, right now they are bitching about "Flynn writing" in a comic that Stanley wrote years ago. They dont know what they are talking about most of the time.
There is also a bit of a cuck chair situation. Like, they will defend anything from the 2000 but for anything new they will say "x franchise does it better" even when its debatable.
Then why go out of your way to single out sonic? Nintendo already does shitty price practices with the Galaxy re-releases at $70 while SxS Generations has a much better offer at $50.
And the Galaxy bundle is one of the bestselling games currently. Where is the boycott for that?
So they slowly show off about 3-4 new ones, then show off 5 new ones in the direct only to reveal they are locked to an online subscription or dlc. That to me feels more annoying than a standard season pass.
The difference with Crossworlds is they showed an initial roster of 23 characters plus some free dlc. With Pokemon, the main selling point is the return of mega evolution along with some new ones.
