Seeing all these feckless Democrats in Congress flailing and asking "what do you want me to do" and I keep thinking: bare minimum, I want you to have the energy of a 76-year-old John Lewis staging a sit-in on the floor of Congress in opposition to the inaction on gun violence after Pulse. MINIMUM.

I already have students with deportation orders, filing for special juvenile asylum, etc. While trying not to panic, my colleagues and I are trying to prepare for the not-unimaginable worst coming. I don’t believe we’re alone in our worries/desire to plan. Are your schools/colleagues discussing?

I’ve been teaching since 2007 but never teach the same texts or with the same purpose. Always depends on the kids’ interests or needs. It’s usually invigorating but this year it’s SO exhausting since I’m also creating new routines because I have more SLIFE students

Tom Homan once told @aoc.bsky.social during a hearing that to claim asylum, migrants must do so at a port of entry. They don't. He lied and he knows he lied. He said it to convince the public that his version is the rule. That was intentional and now most believe it to be true. It isn't.

There were resistance movements against Pinochet’s regime, against the Nazis, and against the Apartheid regime in South Africa. In the face of annihilationist regimes resistance succeeded.
They succeeded because people found myriad ways to work together, and didn’t give in to hopelessness.

Most every time I post about politics nowadays, I get a number of replies from people saying stuff along the lines of “we’re all doomed and you’re a naive idiot if you aren’t cowering in a hole waiting for death.”
