I finished reading this today. It is a great summary of the social, medical, and legal history of trans folk. It discusses the need for public education to go hand-in-hand with changes to legal recognition in order to bring lasting change using examples from around the world. Highly recommend 👌

Yup. The Murdoch media empire has caused untold damage to the world through science denialism; not just regarding climate change. Human rights and basic respect for differences, especially for minorities, have taken a beating. For anyone outside of white cishet norms, the outlook is scary.

The metaphor of the phoenix is a strong one. Transition is very much the death of the old and rising of the new, and the challenges faced are well symbolised by fire.
