In my newbie quest to learn music theory, I became enamored with a pentatonic scale the other day and found this magical 16 year old World Science Festival clip of Bobby McFerrin that made me cry (as music often does). It’s a short and sweet Wednesday watch:

I know it’s still summer and all, but double fisting a mug of dumplings and a mug of coffee while Seattle skies drizzle has made for a blissful morning.

I spent most of today playing Elk River Blues by Ernie Carpenter who wrote the tune watching the construction of the Sutton Dam flood his home in West Virginia.

When I sat down to start Ch. 3 of The Way of Kings, this opening quote hit hard. #thewayofkings #brandonsanderson #oldtimefiddle

Barlow the dog at last night’s local old time jam.

Barlow is named after the Appalachian fiddle tune “Barlow Knife” a type of folding pocket knife from Sheffield, England.

Earliest strains of the tune are thought to come from a 1627 Scottish tune “Long Er Onie Old Man” (Traditional Tune Archive).

Saw The Visitors installation by Ragnar Kjartansson at #SFMOMA this week and it was one of the most moving audio-visual experiences I’ve ever had. I haven’t been able to pinpoint why it felt so moving - it might be one of those to experience over and over again.
