Better late than never, but this #NationalTreeWeek I want to give a shoutout to my favourite tree from this summer’s fieldwork: this absolute unit of an oak. Isn’t she beautiful? I made sure to say hello and goodbye every time I was at that site 😅

Representing my fellow students and working to improve learning and teaching for them and other cohorts to come is something I enjoy immensely. Very pleased with this recognition!

Stressed? I highly recommend going for your first ever sea kayak on Caol Scotnish, but make it a night kayak where the full Milky Way is on display and every paddle splash is an absolute riot of bioluminescence ✨ no pictures so you’ll just have to take my happy face for it

this is a really good point
Refugees have often smuggled valuables so that they aren’t completely destitute on arrival at their destination. Sewing coins or jewelry into clothing as a nest egg for starting a new life. This is deliberate impoverishment followed by complaints about dependence on state resources.

Excellent fun in a seminar today, planning to restore a fictional estate we inherited from our uncle Lord Farquaad to improve biodiversity. Interactive materials for the win!

And finished! Months of going out, nearly 1000 datapoints, three whole bottles of smidge, swims in Loch Lomond and somehow only one tick later I’ve finished my dissertation fieldwork. Now for a little time off before semester and data analysis begin!

Almost done with fieldwork - painted myself a celebratory plate 😅

The Black Ferns are *demolishing* Spain 😬 Great to see these games sold out as well!

The upside of very early morning fieldwork: beautiful sunrises.

Fieldwork was truly a delight today 😅😬 Not helped by the fact I get stonking allergic reactions to midge bites.

Absolutely perfect hill day. 10/10, no notes.

Just out here hugging (read: measuring) some Big Old Trees. I think this one qualifies as an Absolute Unit 🤔

Intriguing eggs(??) in the woods today. Anyone got an idea what may have laid them?

Fieldwork was cancelled due to high winds, but my day was brightened significantly when I found out I’ve been awarded the Al Tajir Trust Prize for Outstanding 3rd Year EnvSci student! I’m delighted and honoured; this’ll really help with summer childcare costs where holidays and fieldwork clash.

It was a lot wetter than predicted, but the Perthshire hills are always a delightful surprise.

Could have done without bursting a tyre on the way back at the Lawers Pass with zero phone reception though!
