Alright, time has come! Truly a more valuable, accurate & time-resilient measure of last year's value than the other thing this weekend:

My Top 25 Cinema of 2024! Missed a few I wanted to catch; opted out of some for emotional reasons. Truly, tho, this'll do just fine.

I really hope THE COLORS WITHIN gets more notices this awards season. One of best films in a year that's really struggled to seriously seize my attention.
Naoko Yamada's THE COLORS WITHIN has been nominated for Best Animated Film by @seattlecritics.bsky.social. Stream it now on HBO Max! ✨

This is what we fight to prove wrong. And we keep proving it wrong to Netflix's face. Ted knows he can't win his war against theaters, even if he won't admit it. He keeps caving, and we will make him continue to fucking cave.
Ted Sarandos has confirmed he will look at shortening theatrical windows for WB films, saying, “Over time, the windows will evolve to be much more consumer friendly, to be able to meet the audience where they are quicker."
Netflix Buys Warner Bros. for $82 Billion
It's a dark, devastating day for the theatrical movie experience. After a banner year for Warner Bros, capped off by IMAX 70mm re-releases for One Battle After Another and Ryan Coogler's Sinners next ...

I hate that there are people out there who wouldn't notice a billion dollars going missing. The kind of money somebody could use to grow an incredible business that changes whatever industry they launch in.

We with legit ideas can only desperately, naively dream of astronomical luck opening a door.

We desperately need more competitive independent studios to pop up now. And they will, but it'll be slow, and in the meantime industry workers will suffer.

We are in an age of suffering. Of greed strangling peoples' lives. The threat of late-stage capitalism at its most severely harmful.

Like... he might destroy the film industry because of his greed. This deal isn't something that came out of nowhere, it's been his years long plan to sell WB for his own personal retirement plan. I don't even think Netflix WANTS WB, but nobody wants the Saudis getting it. Crazy hell world!
December 5, 2025 at 1:17 PM
No outcome of the WB bidding war that wasn’t crushingly depressing. Netflix isn’t even worst case scenario, but it’s still fucking bad.

Best case was no deal at all, but Paramount & Ellison’s evil greed tanked that. It’s bitter comfort that at least they’re blocked now. High fucking cost tho.
Netflix is now in exclusive talks to acquire Warner Bros after the bidding war

If they agree to a deal and then it gets blocked, Netflix will still pay Warner Bros $5B

Of Oscar-qualifying animated features this year, my current ballot would be:

Little Amelie or the Character of Rain
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle
Lost in Starlight
Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc
KPop Demon Hunters

Haven't seen 100 Meters, Arco, Boys Go to Jupiter or ChaO yet, tho.

I won't be surprised, or even remotely upset, when KPOP DEMON HUNTERS sweeps most awards. Wish there was more competition though.

I really wish they'd held off on THE COLORS WITHIN last year so it could run for awards now, cause it's far & away the best I've seen this year.

Okay, I am successfully watching movies in theaters. I'm still not at the point of substantively *caring* about that, or feeling like there's something I can't live without. So, yeah, this is still where we are.

How do people not see that the entire OU essay thing is just an attempt by this girl and the Turning Point chapter to turn her into another Riley Gaines grifting on trying to push trans people out of society?
Here's what this is actually about, dumbass

Imma be real with ya, girl, I'm checked out. The energy isn't finding me. There's not much I feel a need to see. I'll see WICKED with the mum just cause of musical tradition, and RENTAL FAMILY cause of cultural investment, but... I'm tired.

It's hard to overstate what a catastrophe it would be for moviemaking and moviegoers if the Ellisons are allowed to acquire Warner Brothers and merge it with Paramount. I know that rooting for Comcast and/or Netflix sticks in a lot of throats here but those would be far better alternatives... >
