I’d really love someone to explain to me how the admin’s Latin America policy is consistent regarding narcotrafficking.

(Please don’t reply to this saying it’s consistent because he supports right-wingers. That’s not what I’m asking!) open.substack.com/pub/dropsite...
Trump Bribing Honduran Voters To Restore Narcotrafficking Government to Power
Trump endorsed the nominee of the right-wing party, while pledging to pardon its most recent president, who sits in U.S. federal prison for drug trafficking.

Northwestern’s student body simply doesn’t fit what they agreed to. Good luck getting all those highly intelligent, head strong students to agree to any of this.
TL;DR: basically the same contemptible garbage as all the other schools, anti-trans, anti-protest, more restrictive on admissions than the court held in SFFA. 75 million dollar tribute payment. At least no surveillance of teaching evaluations I guess?

In case you’re wondering why Pete Hegseth is freaking out about a congressional video reminding the military not to participate in illegal orders:
To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

Trump administration officials are 100% absolutely going to order the murder of American citizens at some point, in addition to people overseas, and every single one of these people needs to know that they will be held accountable, and hopefully it’s spend the rest of their lives in prison for this.

Dear Journalists on Bluesky: I have a question.

Would you interview notorious liar George Santos, let him accuse female journalists reporting on him of being literal and not metaphorical prostitutes, refrain from any pushback, then publish and promote the interview for clicks?

A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

I can buy the argument that we shouldn’t blame the Trump administration for letting in the guy who committed the shootings. I have a harder time with the argument that the Biden administration is to blame for the Trump administration letting in the guy who committed the shootings.
“You’re a stupid person” — Trump lashes out at a reporter who presses him on the fact that the suspected DC shooter was actually thoroughly vetted before he was let in the US from Afghanistan

If they ever get around to building this thing, it should be bulldozed on Day 1 of a new administration. No messing around, no hemming and hawing about procedure or costs. Order heavy equipment in and start knocking it down immediately, as surely as an overthrown tyrant's statues would be torn down.

The fact doomers have gone from "America is over" to "Dems won't hold anyone responsible when this is over" can actually be read as an optimistic signal imo.

Just once I want these idiot doomers to explain how the federal government can nationally cancel elections that they themselves dont run and they have basically no control over at the state level.

It should go without saying, but the president has no authority to do this, and anyone reporting the story needs to say as such.

Mass pardons are coming. There will be no accountability without treating those as null and void. And that means a future administration taking an official position that Trump is not the legitimate president right now because he is disqualified by the 14th Amendment. The two things are inextricable.

Not *nothing*. We ended up inventing a bunch of legal doctrine to split up Confederate legal instruments into valid and invalid categories.

A substantial portion of regulations should probably retain validity. But not any Senate-confirmed appointments or pardons.
And if you do that, as we must, it's not just pardons that are null. It's everything. No appointments are valid. No orders were real. No laws were validly signed. It all falls into a constitutional interregnum in which nothing he's done counts as legitimate, akin to the South under the Confederacy.

the other thing is that way more people would have been *moved* by horse than ridden a horse, especially by the 19th century.
There's a bit in Pickwick Papers where the main characters (four middle aged men) take a jaunt to the country and not one of them has ever ridden a horse. In 1836.

I think that somewhere along the way something in Stephen Miller got fundamentally damaged. This is neither an excuse nor a mitigating factor; the dude is genuinely fucking evil and he and everything he stands for should be fought against and stopped. But he is something beyond mere sociopathy.
Since Stephen Miller is in the midst of another of his Aryans-only trantrums, we should note that his family are 20th century immigrants from the shtetl of Antopol (Антопаль) then in the Hrodna gubernia of Russia. Applying his immigration rules, they would all have perished in the Holocaust.
Stephen Miller Is an Immigration Hypocrite. I Know Because I’m His Uncle.
If my nephew’s ideas on immigration had been in force a century ago, our family would have been wiped out.

They believe that Trump will use the formal powers of the government and whatever informal powers he may have to extract costs from them if they do not play ball and they equally believe that the anti-Trump coalition will not extract these costs.

So we need to extract those costs.
given how unpopular Trump is, it’s insane that civil society/universities/law firms are still asking themselves “how do I stay on Trump’s good side” rather than “how do I avoid facing consequences for complying with Trump’s illegal demands”
New Gallup poll shows Trump's approval hit a new low for his second term:
-36% approve
-60% disapprove

His approval among Republicans went from 91% in January to 84% in November
