It's the last night at Grace Hopper Celebration, and time is warping to make it seem like last month, but also just yesterday, that I joined with an amazing crew of coworkers to deliver two sessions. The topics of female rage and promoting diversity by rejecting binaries were well-received.

I forgot that rush you get when the code you're wrangling just... works.

Did not expect a win since I'm learning C# as I go on this project, but hot damn. Please, sir, may I have another?

"This is all a distraction." No, this is fascism. This is an authoritarian regime that is becoming more controlling every day. They're dismantling aspects of the government they don't like while funneling money into concentration camps and a giant army of masked gestapo members.

How many Scovilles does it take to get to the center of a coronavirus particle? Asking for me because i don't have time for this shit.

Democrats run on this simple platform: The GOP is a party of pedophiles and people who protect pedophiles. They send the military to take over American cities. They use your taxpayer money to build concentration camps and employ kidnappers.

These things are true.

Why are vet appointments so expensive? They didn't used to be this bad.

My new tea corner, where I keep several cups' worth of loose teas in yogurt jars and unwrapped teabags in tins. The extra loose tea goes in the tea cabinet for jar refills. Wrapped teabags are in a drawer. We'll see how well this works.

I'm excited about WorldCon this week. It's extra awesome that I just have to ride the light rail to get to it. Since I usually walk about 12-15k steps every day I'm at the convention center, I expect to be in great pain when I hit the rheumatologist the next week. Worth it, tho.

Why did no one tell me how amazing a quesadilla is with Serrano freshly picked from your potted plant?

TFW when you're minding your own damn business and unexpectedly walk by a relic on the table.

Dying to know if these had manuscripts on them and whether they survived...

If I'm moving on, I want to do something good. Like, socially good. Connecting people in a healthy way, FOSS, tech justice, games for good, etc. Or else I want to grow a goatee and become Evil KL and be an absolute menace.

I feel like it's time for a change of pace. Or maybe new career direction. So much layoff. So much omgwtf.

I'll throw in the bookstore, too. They were put way out of the way, had no signage, and almost no announcements of events. I cannot imagine how much money the vendors lost this weekend. After seeing this, I'd never recommend vending next year, but I hope some will (if there's a next year).
Geekfest did an excellent job consolidating the experience and opening the facility up. Kudos! THAT SAID. Y'all Flubbed the marketing of this event, its vendors, and outside performances. Specifically, the flash tattoo artists and drag performance were not promoted well at all. Year 2. Meh.

I'm at Geekfest NW! This is my view. Hanging with @clayvermulm.bsky.social, the coolest of the cool.

I'm applying to be a mentee in a new program, and the application asked me how many years of experience I have in tech specifically and professionally.

I counted 11 years in tech if I ignore the 2ish years I was self-employed/at a startup.

16 total years total professionally.

I demand acknowledgment of my iron will, walking out of Kitten Yoga with zero kittens. ZERO. There was this cute guy, but also two sweet babies who look like my cat Moose and the sweetest tiny tortie who melted into a nap when I managed to snatch her up for a cuddle. 🫠

This weekend will include zero day job work.

Zero.

Zilcho.

I'm going to focus on a side project and a writing project, and my day job can sit in timeout until Monday.

Today I took a bouldering class.

Today I learned that I over-grip.

Today I fell off a wall. Learning to fall in BJJ was a good life lesson.

Tonight I can't hold shit because my hands have entered fuck-you lockdown mode.

I'll be back tomorrow.

Screaming at these people works. They’re fundamentally wimps, we just have to actually DO the screaming instead of preemptively admitting defeat.

I am talking about my fellow Americans, not the Democrats. We actually need to scream, gang, not just complain that Schumer isn’t.

I have a wee balance on my card still. I'm totally willing to walk away and never darken their counter again, even if I'm stuck in some backwater red state where a single Starbucks is the only espresso within a 200-mile range. I just let them know this.

Maybe you can give them your opinion, too!
Hi I used to work at Starbucks customer service: if you call or email about this, they are absolutely tracking those numbers, and a sufficient amount of public pushback does make them rethink shit sometimes, so now would be an EXCELLENT time to let them know they’re being ableist shitheads
