this is a perfectly good theory which presents the problem that it has not happened once in american history
Independent, pro-worker, class warrior candidates can absolutely beat Republicans in red states if they are not tainted by the Democratic Party brand. The labor movement can make this happen systematically.

We can take political power without asking Democrats for it.

I cannot emphasize enough that Americans do not act like they are in the middle of a recession.
U.S. consumers spent a record $11.8 billion online during Black Friday sales
Shoppers turned out in big numbers for Black Friday despite wider economic uncertainty.

It's the left's version of climate denialism -- completely immune to data and something we need to change. We can't solve our actual problems if we're not living in reality.

This post is going to make people INCANDESCENTLY mad but here we go: the annual Farm Bureau survey of a Thanksgiving meal (using the same basket of goods over time) priced out at $55.18 for 10 people this year, -5% YoY. In real terms (delf w/ CPI) it's the cheapest Thanksgiving meal ever.

Frankly I think it's disturbing that there's such an unbalanced and unpredictable force in our politics as MTG. I didn't even know trump liked card games.

People just can't quit the argument that if you say anything positive about the economy in general, then that means you are telling a specific person that they are not struggling when they say they are. Such a cheap strawman that shows no signs of going out of style.

I think everyone here is misinterpreting your stance as “disrespect for the voters”.

“Ah HA!”, they say. “So you’re calling bullshit on voters’ stated (mostly economic) excuses? How dare you not take them literally; that must mean you don’t take them seriously! Why I oughtta”, etc.

I feel like there is this recurring thing in internet responses to fiction where anything non-utopian in the worldbuilding is treated as a flaw in the writing rather than the society.
It goes all the way back to “why don’t the characters liberate the droids” which is just as effectively answered with “well why WOULD the characters liberate the droids?”

Not all storytelling is like…utopian humanist worldbuilding.

It’s our version of “regardless of what the data says, crime is up” or “I don’t care what your studies show, everyone knows immigrants commit more crime.” It could be true, but it just isn’t??

These are quantities we can measure! We spend vast resources measuring them. We have examined this question from every angle, dedicating entire agencies to it for generations. And then the moment the debate hits the political sphere, it becomes “numbers schumbers, everyone knows the REAL truth”

It's a matter of millennial self-identity that they're the most economically benighted generation in history.

Like the belief that they've experienced more recessionary events than anyone else. It's not true, but if it was, older generations were there, too.

Absolutely maddening.

if this seems wrong to you, the problem is not that there is some hidden thing in the statistics you can unskew and untangle. you are simply WRONG. you are wrong because you are in the grips of a powerful intra-left narrative about stagnation and affordability. it is false. reflect on implications

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

We can’t just cordon off all the public beliefs we think are good and say “These idea don’t come from anywhere, they are a pure expression of truth.” They also got into people’s brains somehow.
