JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

I know a lot of people (cough Millennials) feel like they need to START a thing, START a food bank, build a little free food pantry.

My friends, my loves, my dears.

Don't start.

JOIN.

These exist. They have community ties! They have some funding! Accountability! Regulations!
I donated to my local food shelf today. I encourage everyone who is able to do the same. Set up a recurring monthly donation if you can too!
Folks will lose their SNAP benefits next week. 42 million of them. 1.1 million just here in MN and WI.

So our food banks will be stretched really thin. I'll be sending some $$ to my local food bank so they can help keep my neighbors fed next month. Even just a little helps.

If you have it please donate cash to the food banks. $10 in their hands will feed more people than the $10 worth of canned goods you can buy for retail prices. Also check on your elders. Many of them will not admit they rely on these programs so grocery gift cards or a surprise bag of staples

Block and move on. Don’t engage with filthy little trolls who have no game. Let them wallow in their squalor and they’ll get bored and leave back to their Nazi bar.
By my count: Of the 15 Departments of the US Government, 13 launched new BlueSky accounts tonight (all but Justice and HUD), and all 13 have posted explicitly partisan political posts blaming Democrats and/or Chuck Schumer for the government shutdown.

Award-winning pain researcher here. This is not something that can be done. Hope this helps.
“In nursing homes, neonatal units, and ICU wards, researchers are racing to turn pain—medicine’s most subjective vital sign—into something a camera or sensor can score as reliably as blood pressure.”
AI is changing how we quantify pain
Artificial intelligence is helping health-care providers better assess their patients’ discomfort.

an incontestable fact of the second trump administration is it is actively trying to sicken and kill as many americans as it can
NEW: @CDCgov hit hard by massive firings that several staff describe to me as a “bloodbath.”
Among those RIFd:
—leadership of the center for immunization and respiratory diseases;
—leadership of global health center
—leadership of the measles outbreak response; 1/4
I have never seen Napoleon Dynamite, The Simpsons, SpongeBob SquarePants, or The Mummy, much to the chagrin of my fellow millennials sometimes
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

this is wild: while Stephen Miller's guy was in Minnesota for his uncle's funeral, somebody was able to see his entire phone and take pictures of his Signal group chats talking about military deployments to Portland, and brought them to the Strib (gift link: www.startribune.com/trump-offici...)

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.

Medical ethicist Arthur Kaplan, quoted in the NYT:

“The announcement on autism was the saddest display of a lack of evidence, rumors, recyling old myths, lousy advice, outright lies & dangerous advice I have ever witnessed by anyone in authority in the world claiming to know anything about science”
This MAGA/MAHA/Trump/RFK Jr/Dr Oz/Dr Bhattacharya press conference right now is quite possibly the worst press conference—from the viewpoints of medicine, public health, & medical ethics—that I’ve ever seen. These men are so shameless & deeply irresponsible. Wherever happened to science & evidence?

I like this. Since under RFK Jr, Covid shots are now for people with underlying conditions that put them at risk, Michigan’s chief medical executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian states that not having the most recent Covid shot constitutes such an underlying condition.

To be very clear:

ACIP is still recommending BOTH the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Varicella (chickenpox) vaccines, just not the combined MMRV shot.

This is due to a reported increased risk of febrile seizures from the MMRV compared to when the MMR and Varicella are administered as two shots.

JUST IN: Vaccine advisers to the CDC have voted to recommended against using the combined measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox vaccine for children under 4. https://cnn.it/3K73pNn

In June, a Democratic state rep in Minnesota was murdered, and a state senator was shot.

And a couple of days later, Trump said he wouldn't phone Gov. Walz, calling him "whacked out" and "a mess"
Trump says he is ordering all U.S. flags lowered to half-mast in honor of Charlie Kirk
Solidarity ✊. I think the hospital has also started blocking off IP rooms that we can't fill because there's not enough staff. I heard on Monday there were I think ~14 boarders in our 45 bed ED with 40 people in the waiting room. I do not envy ED folks right now.
My unit was told they aren't going to consider posting the ~4 vacant RN positions we have until "productivity" improves 🙃
