RIP Toys R Us, you were taken before your time.
The early internet was a hell of a thing.
Notice the URL at the end? Thanks to @archive.org's #WaybackMachine, we know that the site looked like this around that time! Nintendo bought rights to the site in 2000, making it the official home of the series online. Zelda.com DID exist prior, but well... let's just say it was a different Zelda.😬
every now and then I get the itch to dig through old game sites in the Wayback Machine. Sadly a lot of them are glitchy and missing visual elements, but it's still enjoyable digital archeology!
No worries! At least you got to immortalize it in this awesome photo!
Love this pic! It’s actually pretty close to a photo I was hoping to stage and shoot for use in potential game preservation ad campaign idea I’ve been tossing around. Any chance you’d be willing to lend your setup and/or photography skills to something like that?

Let's go on a dig into this lovely little GameCube promo CD-ROM from 01/02, which has, right from the off, an adorable GC cube disc icon.

Dig thread, go! 🧵
I remember being delighted to get this in the mail, but in utter disbelief when I realized that the mailer was the literal size of the console! I couldn’t believe it was going to be so small!

To emphasize a point:

I AGREE that game developers are struggling, and *deserve* to be paid more and treated better.

I also understand that doing so would increase the price of some games.

I actually am *fine* with that, as long as we're getting *finished games* without predatory monetization.
All bets are off once Metroid Prime 4 comes out, but I think Blue Prince might be my game of the year so far.
Man I remember EXACTLY where I was when I saw this teaser for the first time. College dorm room, sitting around with my roommates (who had introduced me to Fallout 3). All of us were instantly pumped. What a time to be alive.
Happy birthday to @obsidian.net's Fallout: New Vegas, which came out 15 years ago today! This teaser was the first look at FNV for many of us, and set the tone for one of the most interesting stories in the Fallout universe to date!
Really happy with how this video came out…even if I barely got it out in time for today’s anniversary! 😅
But wait, there's more! In addition to getting this tape out on our stream and in our archive, we partnered with game conservation expert @restoreandreplay.bsky.social to bring you professional commentary! How well do the old methods hold up, and what's the current wisdom? Watch to find out!

On this day in 1985, the Nintendo Entertainment System was first released in the United States. That's right, the NES is a whopping 40 years old! For those still using and maintaining the original hardware, we have a special treat for you: A Nintendo Repair and Maintenance VHS tape from 1992!

Reminder that any political party trying to make it harder to vote is sending a clear message: they can't win on their ideas alone.
I am playing two roguelites right now: Hades II and Blue Prince. They are both incredible...and yet couldn't be more different from each other. I knew what to expect with Hades II as a fan of the original game, but Blue Prince took me completely by surprise, and I am INVESTED. I love a good mystery!
The missing 'S was the clue we needed all along! 🤣
These kinds of stories are so interesting to me. Even just the logo designs tell a story here. Someone smarter than me could probably write a paper on evolution in graphic design trends from the 90s to the 2000s based on this image alone.
The new Kirby Air Riders comes out next month, but the original Kirby Air Ride for Nintendo Gamecube turns 22 years old today! But wait, WAS it the original? The game actually started life on the Nintendo 64 before being cancelled and developed as a Gamecube game instead!
I'm enjoying this new gmail feature for the most part, but come on Google, it's Sunday. It ain't getting here today.
This was the first Nintendo promo tape I owned. Sadly I didn’t subscribe to Nintendo Power in time to get any of these tapes mailed to me, but I found this one in a Goodwill in the late 2000s. Did a double take because I was not expecting to the N64 logo on the VHS shelf!
This video clip is from Hot Newz 64, a promotional tape mailed out by Nintendo in 1999. Learn more about this tape and watch the full video on our archive site!

I was editing a promo tape capture and came across the perfect response:
