As I understand the situation as @hollywoodsteve.bsky.social kindly shared with me yesterday, this could have been handled very simply, in my professional opinion. In my line of work, I’m responsible for facilitating feedback for individuals, teams, & companies. The framework I use is standard. 🧵
Open question for the community:

Idealistically, how SHOULD this have worked? What is the right way for this app to respond when racism shows up? How can we do better? What tools and actions are missing?

This keeps me up at night. Maybe my open source bones are getting old. I don’t have an answer.
It is increasingly difficult to buy products and services that are free from “AI power”. This is going to be a problem. The AI models are changing and adapting at speeds we’ve never seen before, but that is not automatically equal to increased quality & accuracy. In fact, quite the opposite. Beware.

Congress has the power of the purse, not the president. But Trump has taken unprecedented steps to ignore this constitutional framework. Join us on Tues., Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. ET for a live virtual event with former Office of Management and Budget director Shalanda Young. RSVP: bit.ly/3IRO9Uo

Cuomo continues to be out of touch with NYers. I guess he wants to be a two-time loser by continuing in this race.

I love music but right now I wish @nycferry.bsky.social would ask whoever is blasting "Funky Town" on this ferry to please use headphones or turn it off! I would like to read in peace without a soundtrack in the background. #nycferry #nyc

I accidentally hit "cancel" in the Curb app and there was no pre-cancelation prompt to ask "are you sure you want to cancel?". Thankfully the distance was far enough for me to be able to re-pair my app with the cab, but what an obvious UI flaw!

My phone's "Downloads" folder is just a museum of meals past. The exhibit? 37 copies of the same sushi menu I was forced to download. Curators: every restaurant with a QR code or a website menu download.

Please enter 2025 and stop the madness.

Trying to buy accessible tickets on Ticketmaster & getting a run around. The agent tells me to wait until the General public tickets are available. However, bots buy all the tickets so I was trying to buy pre-sale to get a wheelchair space ticket & they were not answering the phone last night. Ugh!

Overheard this woman at lunch saying, "I love it, it's really fulfilling" in reference to her work as a coach. It immediately followed all the ways in which she would shirk getting educated & credentialed to be a coach. Folks are out here doing work on "vibes" & with no knowledge. Don't fall for it!

Also, good morning!

I just had a mild heart attack thinking I forgot about a 9:45am doctor's appt today for my Mom & that somehow I missed putting it on my calendar. I didn't, it's next week. The reminder to "prepare for the visit" messed me up. Good luck to me slowing my HR down. Off to meditate!

Any guesses on which countries will be labeled as having "high overstay rates"?
npr.org NPR @npr.org · Aug 5
The State Department said it would start a pilot program that will require cash deposits to tourist and business visas for people from countries with high overstay rates.
State Department may require some visa applicants to post bond of up to $15,000

Why do comments on IG posts and reels no longer render comments by people I follow to the top of the comments listing? Is everyone seeing comments the same way now: in order based on time posted or popularity?

I need a new system for choosing audiobooks that are "Mom friendly" because when I'm not in the mood for an autobiography, choosing takes WAY too long!

This will have to count as my Supreme Court term review.

I make that point that there's no point in reviewing what the Supreme Court has done because the rule of law is dead in this country anyway.

My latest in @thenation.com
The Rule of Law Is Dead in the US
The rule of law presupposes that there are rules that provide a consistent, repeatable, and knowable set of outcomes. That’s no longer the case.

Here come the severe thunderstorm warnings. Tri-state area and NYC, brace yourselves!

I am supposed to go to a panel discussion to support a friend this evening, but I am really not motivated to go out during flash flood warnings. Am I a terrible friend?

What applications are folks using for surveys these days? I've been using a #Qualtrics free account for nearly 10 years, but they only want to assist paid users. Their pricing is only for enterprise users, so looking for something to replace it. I need more than Google Forms.

Hi @moderation.bsky.app I’m about to lead a training for 50 nonprofits on how they can use Bluesky and your suspending a nonprofit staffer for speaking out against transphobia is going to make your platform a hard sell.
@moderation.bsky.app suspended our director, Evan Greer's Bluesky account for speaking out about an awful experience from a transphobic bigot...is @bsky.app on the way to becoming the next Twitter/X ?

Re-skeet + demand Bluesky unsuspend her account!

I just got a severe thunderstorm alert on my phone now, a full 45 minutes after I heard the thunder start and the power flash while on a Zoom meeting at 4:30pm ET.

I guess we've entered the "look at the sky" stage of weather alerts in the US, because that likely would have been more notice.
