In Albany Park, they fired pepper-spray balls to disperse an angry crowd and arrested two U.S. citizens. In Evanston, one repeatedly pointed his weapon at protesters while another knelt on a man’s back and punched him in the head.

Kid Dressed as Dragon: Can I tell you a joke?
Me: Yeah, dude.
Kid: Why did the octopus cross the reef?
Me: Why?
Kid: TO GET TO THE OTHER TIDE! *runs away*

South Carolina schools recently sent home unvaccinated kids to stem a growing measles outbreak. It turned out 5 of them were infected and, if they'd been at school, could've unwittingly spread it to their classmates for days.

That kind of precaution is now illegal in Idaho.
Idaho Banned Vaccine Mandates. Activists Want to Make It a Model for the Country.
The Idaho Medical Freedom Act makes it illegal to require anyone to take a vaccine or receive “medical intervention.” Leslie Manookian, the activist behind the law, hopes to make it a “societal norm” ...

It also helps that I don't have meetings today (somehow???) and can stay comfortable in a quiet room with controlled lighting, ginger tea, etc.
Another reason remote work is important for folks with chronic illness: Woke up today with vertigo. Couldn't walk, never mind drive. But I did the Epley maneuver, took Zofran, and rested. I'm not 100% now, but I'm good enough to log on. Would have had to burn PTO if I'd been required in an office.
A fun thing about being catastrophically tired is not always knowing when you shouldn't engage or talk to people because everything is going to come out half baked.

“Following Ryan Walters’s resignation, we have noticed a substantial decrease in crisis calls from Oklahoma, Lance Preston," Rainbow Youth Project director said.

"The relief expressed by callers is palpable, and we are grateful for the positive impact his departure has had."
I love how the strategies for "pacing" and similar given to people with chronic fatigue challenges are completely incompatible with having a job.
Yeah, I mean I do mask everywhere, but it's still wild to me that people don't do it in places where sick people literally go for care, especially now that we theoretically know better. But it's not like medical professionals have been modeling this appropriately either.

centrists will tell you to your face that we all need to abandon identity issues, and focus on kitchen table issues instead and yet when a leftist candidate runs a generational campaign based on kitchen table issues, it's the centrists weaponizing identity politics to smear the leftist.

Note to self before leaving for international travel: please do not do the funniest yet stupidest thing possible at the airport tomorrow
Next four books in the stack include To the Moon and Back, The Tusks of Extinction, You Weren't Meant to be Human, and The Emperor of Gladness.
Also finished the audiobook of @isabelcanas.bsky.social's The Possession of Alba Díaz, which I didn't find spooky but did find delightful. Blood-soaked yearning with bonus heavy metal poisoning.
In other news, I loved Saltcrop by @yumewrites.bsky.social. It's a lovely, gnarled sibling drama masquerading as an agricultural thriller, and I mean that in the best possible way. I have some thoughts about the pacing in the second half, but I strongly recommend. Made me miss sailing, too.
I can't reiterate enough that wearing a mask is community care.
Realizing I'm going to have to say no to a ton of shit between Nov. 15 and my surgery on Dec. 9 because the disease burden is super high and I can't trust anyone to take meaningful precautions to help keep me healthy. Great times!!!!
