Professor of Instructional Psychology & Technology at Brigham Young University. Pretty much a skeptic and critic of ed tech and everything related. But a lovable one, at least.

BREAKING:

The White House lashed out at the creators of this ad for "fear-mongering".

It must have really struck a nerve. Maybe they don't like being outed as fascists.

You know what to do: SPREAD THIS EVERYWHERE!

unlike Vietnam or Afghanistan at least the Marines coming to.L.A. know exactly what this fight is all about
The path you work out is negotiated with a caring professional who knows when the system is the one that needs to bend. But is also sensitive to the fact that we all benefit from being asked to bend ourselves, at times. Their deft touch could hopefully balance both of those goods.
This is almost the opposite of scalable of course. But we always knew scalable would never be personal. In a way it’s kind of the opposite of flexible, too. At least how we usually think about flexibility. It isn’t start and stop at any time, do it all on your own terms.
Using this as a central construct (instead of flexible etc.) seems to open some new possibilities. It suggests having teachers who are aware of your circumstances in a real, personal way (not algorithmically personal). And who create a custom plan with you that addresses the situation *you* face.
First, I’m sorry and hope you find peace in your difficulty.

I don’t think I have an answer, other than I wonder if we need to explore a different construct. Instead of maximally scalable or maximally flexible, maybe the model you’re talking about is maximally forgiving? For lack of a better term.
Another new article out. The last part in a trilogy of what we’re getting horribly wrong when it comes to online course design. Abandon the search for best practices!

They could have pulled a Weekend at Bernie’s for the entirety of Biden’s presidency and it still would have been better than what we have now.
I guess the reason I'm not worried about #AI taking my job is that after 70 years of trying, the best we've done is an almost-sophisticated version of the Eliza chatbot. #EdTech #eLearning
Except you, of course. They want you.
Someday the reckoning will come, and you'll wake up to the damage you let him cause. Probably not until it's too late, and all you'll be able to do is look around at the horror you're responsible for.

Well, good luck with the vote.
But he won't. He'll know your vote is just more evidence of how weak you are, how cowardly you are, and how easy it is to bend your conscience and will to his. And maybe you'll sleep that night, but someday you won't.
We both know that you're going to line up and do what you're told. And when you go to bed that night the only thing that will help you sleep is the hope that maybe this time Trump will pat you on the head and tell you he's proud of you.
I'm asking for a reply to this message, but I don't have any hope you'll send one. If you do I'm sure it will be the blah blah blah you usually send, about how important these matters are, and how you'll consider it carefully, and .... well, we both know that's not true, don't we?
History's going to remember that you agreed to the deaths that have already happened, and will continue to happen, because you were more interested in Trump telling you that you were a good little boy than you were in discharging your responsibilities with honor.
I hope you remember this when you vote for the social media celebrity he's putting up for surgeon general. History is already going to remember you poorly because you voted for the day drunk he put up for defense. And the psycho he nominated for HHS.
My latest email to my senators: a 🧵. Hey John, it's time for some tough love. Donald Trump doesn't respect you. To the extent he thinks of you at all, he thinks you're a sucker--so sure you're important, but in his mind nothing more than a little dog that rolls over to ask him to scratch your belly.
Absolutely. DM me and we can start arranging details.
