Yesterday, colleagues from the Management Sciences & Marketing (MSM) Division @alliancembs.bsky.social gathered at the Hyatt Regency Manchester for our Away Day.

Under the leadership of our new HoD, Prof Michelle Carter, we kickstarted the academic year, & reflected on our vision for the future.

Maybe I’m not using this site to its fullest potential, but I do miss the time when I used to engage with #academictwitter in the pre-X days. Twitter used to be my preferred engagement platform, not LinkedIn. I guess BSky hasn’t been adopted on that level. Miss the old close-knit community feeling.

We are living in 'interesting times' for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI); and naturally, recent events (and decisions!) have extended this conversation quite visibly into supply chains.

Investment in infrastructure development is crucial, especially for a country struggling with productivity. The key issue remains the skills gap in the workforce and supply chains. Visibility of project pipelines and long-term capability development is important.

It’s fascinating (my portfolio performance aside) to see how 'replication' continues to serve as a key mechanism in tech competition—shifting from 'manufacturing rivalries' (reshoring/capabilities gap etc.) to 'chip wars,' and now to the ongoing 'AI race.'

Just read this chilling account of #modernslavery & #workerabuse in #sugar #supplychains in a sugar rich state in India.

Distressing to hear how workers are trapped into #bondedlabour & #abuse, with no means of recourse or escape.

Why would anyone stay in a job where abuse is rampant and women are coerced into hysterectomies? Because the cost of escaping India’s cane fields is often even higher.

Is @bsky.app the new academic Twitter? Dare I ask (hope)?
November 18, 2024 at 1:55 AM
I think X has genuinely tested my limits- however, I have been sticking to it because of the academic community I have engaged with & benefitted from for over 10 years.

I see less & less of that now on X.

LinkedIn is too… well!

I hope @bsky.app becomes that alternative I’ve been looking for.
