Good news about the cutting-edge AI tools from the $3-trillion-dollar company.
Google AI search result for “was 2010 fifteen years ago?” returning: “No, 2010 was 14 years ago, not 15 years ago. The current year is 2025, and to find the number of years ago 2010 was, you subtract 2010 from 2025, which equals 14.
Current Year: 2025
Past Year: 2010
Years Ago: 2025 - 2010 = 14 years”

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

Working with Performant over the last year has been dreamy! I had wanted to collaborate with them for a while, and it’s been as awesome as I hoped. (And this link has a tiny sneak preview, aka screenshots, of what we’ve been up to.)

Pelagios is proud to count Performant & Rainer as Partners. Together, we are trying to build methods/tools for annotating & structuring data "in the round", where different Partners contribute knowledge, resource and/or funding, towards distributive resilience. Performant Studio is a set of smaller sharper tools which you can use together or separately, and which integrate nicely with others, including Recogito Studio, the TEI and IIIF annotation platform we built in collaboration with @aboutgeo.bsky.social, University of Bonn and others. #dh2025

The whole suite is available at affordably for those who can’t or don’t want to self-host, and the final product of a project can be built as a static website, hostable freely, and independently of the software (static images, maps and search coming soon) #dh2025 #minicomp

Alongside the software, we’ve started a series of how-tos, describing things you can do with Performant Studio, with or without our help. The first is “How to Publish a Digital Edition”: www.performantsoftware.com/solutions/ed...

Another day has passed and nothing from the acting head of FEMA in a disaster that killed 100+ people and I haven’t seen any journalists ask the administration where he is…???

Knowing who is currently leading FEMA strikes me as something the public has a vital interest in…

Has anyone seen David Richardson, the current head of FEMA? Where is he? I've not seen or heard a word from him during this flood? They've sent Noem out instead which is not usually how this goes.

Who would set a country's future on fire?

The Trump regime has already plunged America into a distinction that has only been earned by two previous governments, which happen to be the two most murderous regimes in human history.

I have 2 incoming PhD students who can't find funding to study in the UK. (In the US PhD students are generally funded; this UK wild west is unconscionable.)

Long shot, but does anyone know of any funding opportunities for PhD students in digital humanities, AI, comp linguistics, comp soc sci, etc?

We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care.
