RIP to Rob Reiner and his wife. Reiner was one of the masters of the crowd pleaser, crafting the kind of films that are somehow both rare to see in contemporary cinemas and yet endlessly copied. This is such a brutal and tragic loss.

All so, so good. Chris Chalk is one who stands out as *wildly* underrated. Nicole Beharie too. You mention Lily Gladstone downthread, how is she not in everything? Give her big roles in big movies!

You are correct. But I think sometimes they choose tv because its a more stable path with more longevity. But i absolutely would love to see them more on the big screen
Sterling K Brown, Aaron Pierre, Taylor Paige, Idris Elba, Chris Chalk, Jovan Adepo, Dominique Fishback, Yahya Mateen, Nicole Beharie, interesting such stellar talents have been relegated to TV despite showing immense talent on the big screen.

And this is exactly what I'm getting at! Black people and POC have always known to migrate to where the work is at, and in this particular sense, if that means television is where the work is at, then that is where we will go and do well! BUT...
Absolutely! There should be 100 more Cooglers with the resources to create films showing the complexity and beauty of our experiences.

This whole thread, but I managed to see KOTFM in theaters. Lily Gladstone was the absolute heart of the movie. I was gutted. Let's face: Viola should have been Best Actress for FENCES, not supporting.
Lily Gladstone lost to Emma Stone (WRONGFULLY) and Emma Stone is now on a campaign for another Oscar, Lily..... Her co star is also on another for his latest work...Lily......Im never letting you jive turkey's forget you tried to make it okay, because as always you are okay with white supremacy

I agree with you on film tho they deserve BOTH. Some of their work is on top shows; I don’t see TV as “below” film in the ‘prestige’ age. SKB is lead on Paradise with a strong first season and Emmy nom. Nicole Beharie does brilliant work on The Morning Show. Yahya Mateen was a genius on Watchmen.

One of the more underrated actors in it is mainstay Beverly D'Angelo who I dont think receives enough credit for her steady brilliance across from a buffoon. ..her eyes...uuughhh 🤌🏿
Christmas Vacation is a classic for alot of reasons, but watching it again two things I think make it per capita one of the funniest movies of all time are what I might label "follow through " and that its superbly acted...The biggest example of the former being the "Tree"..

The vibe promoting Marty Supreme as this scrappy movie BUT I’m sure they sunk a lot of money promoting it. It has an expensive clothing collaboration!!

Yuppp. The methodology behind some of the choices for this year's vanity fair cover seemed to suggest that this is precisely what defines the male movie star today. More memeability than talent.

There's a piece to be written about Chalamet and a host of other beloved actors being conventions and shorthand for memes and social media adapted language more than actors. Vibes more than artist. Chalamet as the undisputed king of new wave of empty vessels made up of what we put in.
