The original Let It Die was famous for its absolutely amazing soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka went and got in touch with a HUNDRED of his favourite indie bands and commissioned each to do a track named 'let it die'. The result was borderline mystical.

They're AI-generating the music here.

Fuck that.
The Let it Die sequel - Let it Die: Inferno - which is coming out next week (4th December), seems to have been built using a considerable amount of generative AI. https://bit.ly/4ol7lIA

Exciting news! We added AI to your browser.

-I didn't want it.

Well, we added AI to your editing software.

-I don't want that.

Er, we added AI to your TV?

-Nor that.

Fine, we added AI to your phone! You like your phone.

-I switched that feature off.

(Sweating) we added AI to your... ahhh

Why don't we like "AI?"

You try to put it into everything in nonsensical ways.
It doesn't work the way you claim it will.
You don't pay for the work you use to generate it.
Your intent is labor reduction without a contributory return.
You know it's unpopular so you try to hide it.
You lie about it.

Y’all, things are dire since my car has been stolen a week before our move. We were counting on having it. Things have been really rough & being on disability, which I’ve been on since my lymphoma diagnosis, limits my budget drastically. If you can help or share I’d be grateful.

One of the reasons I've never bought into AI doomerism, is that to believe "it's here to stay, get used to it!" you have to buy into the idea that AI generated elements are so hardcoded or integral as to be permanent, when they really aren't.

You can simply remove it, and it's gone just like that.

This is similar to the logic that the Nazis used to justify mass deportation and murder of Jews, Romani, and other people.

They’re not Nazis, though!
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

The basic policymaker mental model for climate action assumes:

- maintaining status quo is a win
- we have plenty of time
- electricity is the only source of pollution

All 3 are false, to the benefit of the wealthiest enterprise in human history, at the expense of all life on earth (including us)
Mark Carney has had to 'step forward and backwards and it all sort of cancels out' headspace on climate for quite some time.

It's the logic of carbon offsetting: if you operate a coal plant, but you also build some renewable energy, the latter cancels out the former 🫠

people using genAI have a deeply rooted hatred of artists because the narrative has been shifting to "artists don't contribute meaningfully to society" for decades, as capitalism continues to backslide into the shit pit, but this (incorrect) attitude cannot mask the cultural significance of creation

Look, if you're not an expert you wouldn't know, but this chart is bullshit. They could not possibly measure this as 1. How can you tell for sure? There's no reliable automated way. 2. You're not counting the many sites that are blocking crawlers now.

But there's an even more important reason...
the internet is now a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy and so on

Please keep putting pressure on PayPal. Stories like this are becoming more and more common. Artists don’t deserve to lose their source of income over payment processors being puritanical/anti-small business.

if you think that ao3 needs a dislike button, block me. we have nothing to say to one another. I'm honestly done being nice about this. there is no algorithm to teach. it's an archive. wanting a dislike button is just a request for the ability to be hateful with no consequences
no way people are asking for a dislike button on ao3 bestie that’s the back button your browser

in 1st century Judea, the corners of every field had to be left for the poor to pick crops for themselves, every seventh year *all* of the crops from fields and vineyards and orchards belonged to the poor, and all debts of all types were cancelled every 50th year.

Is NHSE forcing young people to detransition?
The minutes of a meeting, leaked to NWBylines, strongly indicate NHSE does not want the prescribing of puberty blockers at WellBN to continue

Three weeks ago I marked nine years on Testosterone.

I didn't celebrate it then because I was in the middle of a multi-month battle to be allowed to stay on it, despite not producing my own hormones and simply wanting to remain on the exact prescription I'd had for nine years without any problems.

It is Thanksgiving Day, make certain your call center workers can get pizza and ice cream
Spoke with a source who told me the call volume is so high, a call center for both Mastercard & Visa is bringing out pizza and ice cream so agents don’t quite amid the rush. Long waits are causing dropped calls.

What you’re doing is working. Call MC & Visa.
