Addressing common barriers to everyday biking and proving that you can roll in style—even in Chicago. IG: @ibikedinthis
Here at I Biked in This HQ we don’t have the tires to bike in snow, so posting may be a little lighter for a while!

30 degrees—a good day to wear the hand-knit sweater I got in Ireland last year and leg warmers. Scarf is from Ireland too. Vintage Fendi 365 coat. Knit cap from Walgreens.

“The US isn’t Europe!” Anti-bike people always seem to think that bike-friendly cities just somehow naturally evolved.

Having some knee pain. Went to the chiropractor and told him I got a new bike with lower handlebars. He noted that I was "sitting more aggressively" and now I'm going to make sure I'm always sitting as aggressively as possible.

It’s never too late to start riding a bike!
Suffragist and educator Frances Willard riding her bicycle, Gladys (because it made her glad).

“I learned to bicycle when 50... and I think it is one of the best things I ever did. What pleases me is to see other worn-out women take it up, and find a new lease of health and life thereby."

We have a pair here in Chicago sitting on Montrose pier this week. The last two days they've had a pair of Peregrines fly in to dispute territory with them at 10am.

Riding on California through Logan Square is awful at rush hour and even worse on Friday. Almost hit by some dick stuck in the intersection at Fullerton when I went through.

The ultimate "I biked in this"
Congrats to Jessika & Bryce, who rode off from their wedding into the distance on a CargoB last month! We love that we could be a small part of their big day!

Day started out sunny but ended up kinda gray! No matter—creating a new outfit and getting on the bike always makes me happy.

Love it when a car is parked in the bike lane AND the driver almost doors me.

Part of the reason I started this account.
There is a very small, very strange minority of cyclists who think more people should cycle but also seem to think it should be some sort of punishment and refuse to see that making no concession to comfort or joy does not make people who don't already cycle want to give it a go.

A message from Mrs. American Fietser:

Yes, you can be 7 months pregnant.
Yes, you can get dressed up for dinner.
And yes, you can ride your bike to get there.

“I worry about you riding at night” honey I mostly get almost hit in broad daylight by distracted/reckless/inattentive drivers.

Nice day for a ride to the lake. In short sleeves, even.

Is a Divvy membership worth it? I have like 5 bikes but I've used it a few times in the last few months. And I was thinking about taking an ebike downtown tonight, but I'll probably wimp out and take the train, since it's like an hour.

Just like people ride as much as is comfortable/realistic for them, I also encourage people to wear what works for their biking habits. If you wanna wear performance gear and change at work, go for it! Others like to roll in a suit. There are no rules here.
Yes, it's crazy how folks can turn cycling fashion into something divisive. We're all riding bikes, that's what counts.

In honor of my first <30ºF bike commute of the season, let's talk about how to stay warm in the 20s, 10s, and even 0s.

For years I biked for transit in Boston 9 months a year, pausing in winter – but one year I decided to just keep going. So can you!

Here are some tips 👇🏻, please share yours too!
